I assume the lightbox/neon merger as alluded to in Sky’s capital raising information will be occurring at the same time as lightbox ends for spark customers. Can only assume there will be further correspondence from sky to all customers?

It’s also funny because in the same presentation for the capital raising Sky trumpeted having over 1 million subscribers over all their services, ever since the lightbox purchase went through. Be interesting to see how many they have after the spark customers all leave...

Is it unfair that sometimes, free things come to an end?

Not free, it is factored into the price.

yes. they called it Unplan Entertainment, including both Netflix and Lightbox.

should the price drop by at least $10/month? LB was $12.99/month, right?

At the bare minimum it needs to drop the prices by at least $10-$15. There are other providers who are offering the gigabit fibre plans at a cheaper rate and I wonder how Spark even compete. They seem to be losing customers ever since they got rid of the loyalty discounts when they changed to the unplan broadband packages.

@freitasm Perhaps the Lightbox forum should now be merged into the Sky/Neon forum?

I has now prompted me to start to look around as now out of the 12 month contract since changing plans. But guessing many people don't bother. But in the post covid world every dollar saved will help, so guessing there will be some good deals out there. I wonder what skys ISP deals will be.

Probably because Spark provide a consistently high quality service on arguably the best network. Not everyone is looking for the cheapest provider.

Good idea, thanks.

I'm a little dissappointed. I changed to Unplan Entertainment about a year ago. Specifically so that Lightbox and Netflix were included.

Now that Lightbox has gone, the value proposition, for me, has gone (basically I'm paying $20 over and above what I was on Bigpipe, and I'm only getting Netflix).

I will be reassessing my options. If they dropped the price of Unplan Entertainment (even by $5) I'd probably not bother changing.

Not completely gutted as I can now move down to the $60 unlimited plan, saving 20 bucks, since I have Spotify through the family account. Will be interesting to see what Spark does in this space, though, maybe included tethering?.......

Has there been any communication on the logistics of how the merger is going to work? ie. is one being wound down, or they gonna operate both services simultaneously, or mystery door no. 3 etc

The last time I used Neon, the UX gave me PTSD

From Stuff

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/121694180/no-price-rise-but-some-hassles-for-neon-subscribers-when-sky-tv-adds-lightbox-content-in-july

Merge is uisng Lightbox platform, recoloured to Neon green

Neon's price unchanged at $13-95, but now including all Lightbox content

"Spark said that after July 20, Spark customers would be able to add Neon to their Spark bill at a discounted price of $9.95 a month."

Its using Lightbox to provide Neon and Lightbox content under the Neon brand. Neon settings will need to be re added, same for watchlists

as per my Stuff link

We are 6 months into a 12 month unplan term and as you say it sucks the added value is now gone and cheaper to get broadband+netflix elsewhere vs the current pricing. Hope they offer/change something, even the option to end the term early).
