So what are my "legal" options to watch the Premier League on Demand in NZ currently? I have a monthly subscription to SkySport Now, got rid of the Sky a while ago to save some $$ and was just waiting for the new interent based decoders, assumed they would be availalbe before the new PL season.

No on demand until Sky sort their app out to provide the on demand features.

You can go back 24 hours and watch what you want in Sky Sport Now.

Select the channel then select view schedule and find the game from this morning.

As well as going back using the 24 hr function, there are currently 3 min highlights, 12 min highlights and full game replay of the Arsenal Palace game available on skysportnow and skygo.

I started watching league highlights this morning and instantly noticed a significant improvement in image quality. Have watched the football using the 24hr function and currently watching the NPC love and it's all a very acceptable picture quality.

They just need to work on how long it takes to load the highlights and replays up. If they fix that and once they add the start from beginning function, there might be nothing left to complain about 🤣

Signed up for the 7 day trial as my last experiences was using Fan Pass and it was crap then.  On the PC using Edge it was ok, quality was occasionally dipping and some artifacting but generall smooth enough but clearly not 60 fps.  Android TV app was just terrible though.  Poor quality, juddery mess.  Not at all  a good experience compared to Spark Sports app.... Also I am loathed to pay $39.99 a month for what would be essentially only 1 major sport and access to the A league which I would watch occasionally.

I am very impressed with the Highlights packages - the 'extended highlights' of around 10 minutes or so are perfect for me. The production of them is actually miles better than what Spark Sport provided last year - including little things like now we actually have score & time graphics visible throughout the highlights.

I watched these on my laptop. Is there a straightforward way to view these on my TV (Sony with Android TV)? Perhaps I can sideload the Sky Go app (it's not available in the Android TV App Store). I don't seem to be able to cast from my laptop, perhaps I could have from my Android Phone Sky Go app though.

I've also watched a couple of matches live on my old-fashioned Sky TV set top box and coverage seemed good.

Provided they can get these highlights and replays available swiftly, I'll be a happy subscriber.

I am on satellite so had a pretty easy experience.
Watching the leeds highlights now and it looks like 720p rather than 1080. I don’t have anything to verify that though.

I hope they curate the EPG listings a bit more to include the team names in the highlight listings etc

Unfortunately not if you are Sky customer I believe. If you are only after sport then Sky Sports Now is the general sports service and this has an Android TV app but to be honest, there are issues and the quality/performance is lacking compared to the browser and most likley Sky Go/Sky HD box.

Has anyone else seen the poor quality from the Sky Sports Now Android TV app?

If you can't cast it with chromecast and there's no Sky Go App best to try install Kodi and get the Sky Go addon from mathuisman.

Yes the quality was very average on SSN for the last however many years.
The quality has improved drastically since Friday though and is now very watchable on the Android TV app

Hmm.. Interesting. I'm currently in temp accomodation (airBNB) while my house is repaired so I don't have my Sony Bravia to hand, but the house has a Panasonic LED TV... I've connected my old shield TV to it and running SSN from there... its just a juddery mess really, low framerate, low bitrate... the browser version seems much better from my limited testing.

Comments from friends throughout this weekend haven't filled me with confidence so I've just renewed my subscription with Sky.

The call took less than 5 minutes and they gave me a 25% discount to make it about $55 a month.

I now just have to remember to record every game rather than just open the app and play what I want.

Ok now I know I’m a little thick but…….

I can see the sky premier league channel that has 3 of todays games but I can’t see any on demand I.e the ones not broadcast on sky 8. Where can I find them?

To top it off as I am one of the Vodafone customers sky took over I can’t use the sky go or Bein sports apps (even though I get a bill from Sky). Really not happy about that given I have a sky account and pay the same as all their other customers. It might be over the top but surely they are breaking fair trading laws somehow.

My understanding is that us ‘Vodafone’ sky customers will be getting/offered the new sky streaming box when it comes out but the specs look like a downgrade on the Vodafone tv box……damn these 1st world problems :)

Handsomedan:

So...they're planning an upgrade of the app to what is expected a month into the season!!??

Screams reactive update rather than proactive, to me.

They really didn't look into what people want - they have simply buckled under the weight of complaints before the season has even started.

the upgrade was scheduled (according to their FAQ - references since removed ) for July 12th, which they obviously missed.

As part of the change to the app interface, they were also changing streaming provider / CDN (based on what one of their team said in a UI/UX interview which Sky paid met to participate in)

The quality of SSN  on the Android TV app for Everton v Chelsea was soft, and a little mushy in the grass, but framerate was good, and I could track the ball easily.

There's still a limitation as your Sky Box can record 3 at a time, but theres 5 games at the same time this coming weekend. No real way around that really until the new box comes out which I assume will allow us better on-demand options for satellite users.
