My expectation and hope is that the puck will give me all current Sky content, except that its via BB, and allows me to exclude MySky rental at $20 per month, ideally less HD rental at $10 per month.

Im hoping they offer a SAT plus BB option, for maybe nix (extra). I pay my current higher SAT sub, buy the one off puck at $100, get the BB version included, that way I can assess how it is. I then have SAT plus BB version for my current sub (after buying the puck)

I do NOT expect a wholesale price drop, as I expect many here will. The same issues still apply, i.e. content costs.

I'm actually looking forward to what Sky do. They made a call to support SAT and also full OD, with a puck, and later a full app, which means no MySky and no puck if desired.

I'm keen to see what happens here too. My deal from this thread rolls over in a couple of months time so hopefully we have some clarity before then.

Me too have to cancel next month to give 28 days notice to sky before deal runs out

This is no longer true. The best deal for Sky Sport is now on Vodafone TV: Free SKY Sports for a year https://www.vodafone.co.nz/tv/vodafone-tv/#/Sports

And it's not just free SKY Sports ($29.90/mth), this offer also includes HD at no extra cost (worth $9.99/mth on SKY with their HD Ticket) and HD recording (worth $20/mth on SKY with their HD MySky). And before everyone jumps on how Vodafone TV can't record everything to the cloud, the situation has dramatically improved in recent months! Now it's only about 10% of programmes that can't be recorded due lack of cloud recording rights. And for the 90% of programmes you can record, you have the benefit of also being able to watch the recording from any connected big screen or mobile device.

So you can save $59.89/mth ($29.90 + $9.99 + $20). Save over $700 in the coming year to spend on something else. This is the best deal around IMO.

What's right with them is probably an easier question to answer. For me, the big issues are:

1) Does not openly peer at IX (along with Spark)

2) Multiple and repeated breaches of advertising and other laws, brought to the court by the Commerce Commission (some were for mobile)

3) They are considering moving their call centre off shore again

4) Ditching products with only a few months notice (emails, DNS hosting, web pages, etc)

5) The most complained about telco.

I understand what IX peering is, but why does the lack of peering at IX mean Vodafone's broadband isn't worth considering?

Vodafone employs one of the largest local workforces in New Zealand. There are many Vodafone New Zealand employees (including me) who are proud of Vodafone's investment in New Zealand, including the work of the Vodafone Foundation ($25m https://foundation.vodafone.co.nz), and many multiple times this investment in local NZ companies who help Vodafone deliver mobile, broadband and TV services to New Zealanders.

4) Ditching products with only a few months notice (emails, DNS hosting, web pages, etc)

I'm not involved in the products you mention in your point 4, but I can speak to Vodafone's TV product portfolio. Occasionally Vodafone will need to retire older TV products as they "go out of support" (if they break there are no more replacement parts!). I understand the products and services you mention have been retired for similar reasons. One example of a product we need to retire imminently in the Vodafone TV portfolio is the "ADB tuner" used by a reasonable number of households in the Kapiti Coast, Wellington and Christchurch regions. The ADB set top box was sold by Telstra in early 2000 and uses MPEG2. Sky recently stopped supply of their channels in MPEG2 and all New Zealanders who used products that relied on the MPEG2 DTH (satellite) signal will no longer have any service (many after market second household/bach units have recently died). Instead of just allowing this to impact customers, Vodafone decided to implement transcoding of the more modern MPEG4 Sky signal, downgrading it to MPEG2 so that Vodafone's ADB customers can continue to receive service and have a more orderly transition from their old box to an alternative solution. During this transition period for ADB users Vodafone is working to create a range of options to ensure all those ADB/MPEG2 customers can continue to receive their TV (including Sky) service at no incremental cost.

5) The most complained about telco.

Vodafone is disappointed with this situation and is investing in a large number of initiatives to improve. One thing to keep in mind when considering the "most complained about telco" statement is that Vodafone has the most customers... a better comparative measure might be complaints per 100,000 customers.

In summary, Vodafone has very competitive broadband pricing and service, and currently has the best TV deal available in market that will save New Zealanders who love Sky Sports over $700 in the coming year. A $700 monetary saving combined with a market leading IPTV delivery platform that includes NPVR and 3 day circular buffering, HD and most of the major VOD apps, including Netflix, is surely worth consideration.

My beef with this point is while they may have one of the largest local workforces in New Zealand, how many staff actually work in their call centres here, compared to offshore (who provide shocking service, by the way - have you tried calling them yourself with an accounts query?)? 10%? 20%? 50%? When I worked at what was Telstra Clear (which had better - but not great - customer service), 0% of the call centre was offshore, and stuff just got done when you called them - rather than constant, endless transferring of your call, by staff who clearly don't care.

In my experience, almost everything bad about Vodafone, was inherited from their acquisition of Telstraclear. It was in my view the worst decision they have ever made.

This is all very off topic however. This is a Sky deals thread and should be limited to discussions on what the current deals are.

Yes, sorry....I got a bit carried away there. Having said that - when I had Saturn cable TV available I subscribed to some of the Sky channels, and it was a (much) cheaper deal. Pity it's all changed now, and I can't get cable anyway.

What is the best deal for Sky these days now? I had a hankering to watch the Movies channel last night.

Dare I say it Vodafone's current deal is pretty good with free Sky Sport as well as you are not paying the $15/20 box fee and the $10 HD ticket.

My hopes are at least if Sky launches their own IPTV this month that we can buy the Android puck outright and get free HD

Sorry, I meant the best standalone deal direct from Sky (not interested in purchasing it via Vodafone - I'm happy with the broadband I currently have).
