Doesn't tell us much about the box itself - as hardware.

Jase2985: how does one get on the trial?

An email came out to Sky customers, a questionnaire was completed and then a confirmation was received.

That was that.

When these come out (i'm sure there will be an upgrade cost) I can see the on demand movies at an inflated price still & pay extra for it to be in HD. Still a rip & I've never used on demand movies.
I hope I'm proven wrong though.

I don't get it. You assume some prices will increase then you criticise because of that increase? I'd put the Tarot cards away, :-)

I feel Sky will bring out value added stuff, well they are as we know. I feel there will be some reductions in some prices. So we need to wait and see whether the added value extra's are good added value functionality, and how prices go. I will still cancel very shortly, or maybe I will wait till F1 is done, not sure.

What has to be clear is that Sky will have to offer a better overall value than at present to compete against cheaper options

Doesn't the TV ad for the set top box replacement specifically say it's at no cost?

The default box could always be crippled, with extra charges to add functionality. This seems to be the way Sky does things.

How so?  Can you give us an example of this?

Just like every provider except for Lightbox.  They all charge extra for HD.  Thats not a functionality charge thats a content charge.
Would you say that Netflix are crippling your streaming until you pay the 30% extra for HD?

If there is extra functionality in the SKy box I'd happily pay for it.
Pay extra for accessing the storage reserved for BoxOfficeOnDemand - yes please.
Pay extra for adding USB storage - yes please.
Pay extra to transfer prerecorded shows when the box gives up - yes please.

If there is ANY extra functionality that I can pay for please tell me cos I want more and am happy to pay for the privilege.

Would it be safe to assume Sky will start showing an HD version of a channel if it is available once the changeover is done?

e.g Watching The Zone HD and see ads for Nat Geo and Comedy Central which you could tell were in HD qual
