@Rikkitic I agree with heaps that you say here. Yeah the WW2 UFO conspiracy channel become a real pain. Sky movies is very good and light years ahead of Prime and Netflix. I do watch YouTube content but again that is a bit of pain to deal with. I am thinking of starting my own YouTube channel on dealing with my medical condition to help others.

I have never tried to do the Aussie TV stuff that @Apsattv has done and I don't really know where to start. More watchable content would have been a godsend over the last few weeks but I have not been in a headspace to consider it.

I think people are starting to see a side effect of what they said they always wanted. Netflix etc was great a couple of years back with some really good movies, shows etc (even before it was in nz and people used dns servers). However studio's etc now see that people will sub for content and creating their own services and pulling movies/tv shows off places like netflix, amazon etc and putting them on their own services. This will always drive up cost as people now have to sub to few different services to get the content they want.

It's fine if you only like 1 or 2 things, gets costly when you like a range of different things.

TV shows and Movies and doing the opposite of what happen to music, while music services like spotify gave most people access to music in 1 place, this is not happening with viewing media and in the end the studios make a lot more money. But hell it's what people asked for when they always said "let me pay for what I only want"

In a market our size too much choice can be a negative and in the end we lose out. Example, look at Hutt Citys' nightmare called Queensgate Mall, there is an over supply of womens' clothing stores as a result competition is fierce and many fall by the way side. And a tech example Linux, a great operating system held back by too much choice and fragmentation.

Hi Mike,

I highly recommend Aussie FTA. They have a lot of decent stuff and the IPTV is easy to set up and use. @Apsattv has also added some other stuff, like Sky News channels, NASA, Bloomberg, Euronews, DW, RTV and others. Someone else, who has been banned here but has his own site, also has some good links. I would be happy to help you set it up if you like.

There are different ways of viewing IPTV content. I use Kodi, which I think works best and is easiest, but there are other options. It is a breeze to install and set up for just IPTV and a few add-ons. Some of the links (I think ABC is one) are not geo-blocked but others, like SBS and many commercial sites, are and you need a DNS proxy or VPN for those. I think DNS4ME is best and it is not expensive. Kodi is easy to use on different OS versions. I have it on Windows and Android. I have never tried it on others.

IPTV links can be installed from a file or via a URL. I use a file because it gives me more flexibility to mix and match and re-order things. But a URL is easier to install since you don't need to create the file.

Once set up, changing channels is a lot like using the remote on Sky. You don't have to go fishing for anything. You just use the up and down button to move through the channel list and click on the one you want. If you don't like it, click again to return to the list. If you have the XML guide installed (very easy to do) you get program guide info for NZ and Oz channels, though not for others. It is very much like using an ordinary remote.

There are also many other IPTV channels around the world you can add to your list, but I won't go into those here. Some are FTA, others not.

I just installed the latest @Apsattv list to see what it is like. There are 94 channels. It starts with all the NZ Freeview, four ABC channels, ten Aussie freeview channels (7,9 etc. which also have a lot of sports), SBS, 3x Sky News, several European English news channels, Rugby men and women's Sevens, NASA, Racing, and a range of things that seem to be from Pluto that may or may not work well, but include film channels and stuff I have no idea of.

Rikkitic re: channel lineup on apsattv playlist..New channels are not via Pluto and are sourced from stirr.com though are similar in content.

There is an actual Pluto TV addon for Kodi for those that want it, though I havnt tried it , it might handle those issues that you were having.

Yes, the add-on seems to work fine. The issues are just with the IPTV links for some reason.

I'd be willing to give Sky another go but I'm waiting for the Puck to see how the whole thing is priced.

I agree with the comments about Netflix, even with a huge library it can be hard to find something to watch on it

It's been said so many times but people are too thick or stubborn to see it in my view. Sky is not the same as Netflix. They compete only in the broadest of senses. They are not competing platforms. Expecting them to be even closely price matched is mental. If you aren't a Sky Subscriber and have no intention of being one, coming in to these threads to whine and make the same invalid arguments should be seen as trolling.

As a consumer, you have a choice, but you have to wonder about the mentality of people who continue to critisize or whine or wish harm to a company they have chosen not to do business with. Surely, you can find something more productive or fufilling to do with your time?

Half of Skys subscribers are also Netflix subscribers (thats 375,000 households). There is plenty of research overseas that indicates that Netflix and cabletv are complementary for many cabletv subscribers.

BTW 10% of Sky subscribers (that'd be 75,000) are former Netflix subscribers.

Exactly. As we have been saying for years it seems. @djshadow just said "I'd be willing to give Sky another go but I'm waiting for the Puck to see how the whole thing is priced. I agree with the comments about Netflix, even with a huge library it can be hard to find something to watch on it" Our longstanding @MikeB4 echoed his thoughts in a similar vein. Our resident expert @ockel agreed they are complementary

Choose what you want, doesn't really matter, none of them are wrong.

After channel surfing and Netflix hunting tonight and finding nothing I have decided to re-join Sky TV tomorrow.
