grolschie: The Neon movie library seems very small.

You have to go to the rentals section.

But if the included movie selection is small, then it isn't going to give much of a reason to be a longer term subscriber IMO. That is one reason why netflix is so successful, it is largely due to the quantity of content.

Depends on the frequency of rotation. Personally I'm more interested in the tv series content at the mo and that's good for me.

Hmm. One of the movies I intended to watch is advertised on Neon's Facebook as Streaming Now back in December.

Ready Player One. Looking at Neon-Lightbox now - this is a rental.

Did this change status or was always rental for Neon, or is Sky yet to add the full list of available movies for Neon-Lightbox? I'll have to ask Neon.

That is one of the beef's I had with Neon in the past.  They only really keep the "latest and greatest" movie content available.

Once a movie is a few months old, it drops off the platform.  Probably licensing related.  But they do not keep their back catalogue.

Similar issue with TV Programmes (not necessarily Neon related) where a platform only have the last couple of series - i.e. you don't have the option to watch from the beginning.

Pretty sure Neon promised their existing content would remain 'free', as in available with your subscription. A number of things on my old Neon watchlist are either no longer available at all, or are now rentals.

No one thought to test this before launching it?

You really think they didn’t test. Of course they did. There are a lot of different variables. I think their one mistake was telling people to update the old app. They should have just told people to delete the old app and install the new one.

I think as they play movies on sky they get added here so the content should get updated regularly.

Still baffled why there isn't an Xbox one app. Xbox is running a cut down version of windows it shouldn't be hard to port it over.

This is Sky we're talking about, who were historically slow to embrace the internet and anything related to streaming, for a long, long time. But if it was all sorted within an hour? That's okay then. Just sounds like a few tweaks required to the library, going on the comments here.

Ready Player One really needs to be enjoyed with a good Dolby ATMOS setup :)

This begs the question .. if one is paying for access to certain content on a sub par platform (e.g. Ready Player One on Neon), is there an ethical issue with "obtaining" the same content at a decent quality to make it enjoyable?

It’s available on neon in HD 2.0 for $5.99 or on Google play in HD 5.1 for $6.99.

This makes me think that sky may have had the rights to it for a short time while they were playing it and during that time it would have been available as a subscription movie. But when they don’t have the rights anymore then it becomes a rental? I’m guessing. Does anyone know how it works?

I see that green book for example is available with the subscription as well as a rental.... so maybe while sky has the rights is available under both. You’d be annoyed if you rented a movie and then found it available under subscription.

Yeah again, sub par. Netflix and Amazon Prime stream in 4K with Dolby ATMOS.

I thought its a pretty great collection of HBO content for $9.99 a month.

I wonder how long they get to keep the HBO stuff exclusive, and what other future content ideas they have.
