If there is ANY extra functionality that I can pay for please tell me cos I want more and am happy to pay for the privilege.

With existing and growing competition (thinking post RWC), it may well be that costs do ease, plus extras are free, all to add value. Take telcos, they tend not to increase prices, or to drop prices hugely, they tend to add value, GB, etc.

I don't watch ads. I record everything i want to watch & skip through the ads.

And it may well be that despite increasing prices this year that PremierLeaguePass isnt making enough profit to justify renewing rights to the EPL. We can speculate til the cows come home about these things. Existing and growing competition cuts both ways. The poster claimed that functionality crippling is a common method by Sky. I'd like to overcome that crippling.

LOL, everyone is different. At the other end there are the ones that are ok with streaming SD, and accept it buffering at times.

No more than the petrol station loves me for a gas guzzling car. I go to Z cos they provide a forecourt attendant. If other servos offered a forecourt attendant and I had to pay extra for it I'd consider them too.
No more than the restaurant I eat at cos I like their food and service - and may tip if they give really good service. I'm happy to pay for a product or service that meets my needs. I dont splutter at the cost of a main or entree cos I think the restaurant is making profit. Or the markup on the wine they have on the wine list. I'm just another face that they wont remember the next day or the next week. They are a business and I am a customer.

I've lived overseas and I hated having to pay extra for HBO AND extra for Showtime AND extra for each AND every sport that I wanted to buy - on top of the basic package most of which I didnt watch. Nothing has changed in that regard in those countries with the advent of streaming. I'd still be a gouged nameless customer in those countries (if thats they way your mindset works). Some people think things are going to magically change post RWC.

Similarly if Sky makes a reasonable profit, can provide their service that meets my needs then I'm a happy customer. They dont know me from Adam and never will. If I want more and I'm happy to pay for it then great. I'm still waiting for Chorus to roll fibre in my street but dont bag them at every opportunity cos it takes forever - nor will I begrudge them a reasonable rate of return once they build their network.

What do we actually know about the new box? Reading through this thread to summarise:

DVB-S2 H.264 and most likely H.265 [from Spyware]
Only Composite output, no Scart, S-Video or Component [from illicit]
It does have HDMI [from mrtoken]
So.. you can see the new Skybox on here
http://skyondemand.co.nz/assets/files/learninghowtodrive.pdf [from attewell] - which, if that's it on page 24, shows it has Dolby Digital Plus and wifi.

...so not a lot really.

If you've got a MySky HDi/HDi+ is an OTA. If you've got an old box (silver MySky or a digital decoder) then it'll be replaced.
Check the skyondemand.co.nz website.

I can only assume they would prefer to get feedback in order to fix any issues before primetime, and that makes sense. If I was to start giving you a big-ass review warts and all, it's not likely to be a) accurate when product goes live hence pointless and b) not really giving Sky the chance to stand behind a 1.0 release in the public domain.

Of course, I could - and Sky wouldn't have any idea who I was (or if the account was indeed held by me, or a flatmate, for example) but - still.

Getting a bit of hype going before a product launch is the thing to do these days.... Social media is perfect for getting some anticipation going. You never know. It may have stopped me cancelling my subscription if I knew it was going to actually be rolled out. Too late now. It was supposed to be rolled out in March.
