clevedon: If you don't want Sky, ditch it.
I'm with Zippity, all the bleaters and moaners complain about this and that with Sky - if it really gets on your goat, get rid of it and then we won't have to hear you complaining.
It's not compulsory, go and watch your Coro St on FTA.

I agree with you, but I didn't think the majority of this thread was about bashing Sky.  More just a discussion about why people didn't think Sky was worth it, and the counter argument from people like you.  One of the main reasons for some people (perhaps not you) was that you have to pay for Sky because it's not advertiser funded but then of course there are a ton of ads on Sky (just not during movies etc).  Your contention that MySky means you don't have to watch the ads has no relevance and completely misses the point.  I'm quite happy watching FTA TV with my PVR and skipping ads on shows (not usually Coro) and movies too.

Anyway, I think the point is some people think Sky is worth it and some don't.  You can read this thread if you're interested in people's reasoning, or you can just add a post complaining about people whining about your much-loved Sky.

With respect, members are allowed to express their views on the service or the content they receive or have received from Sky. That after all is what a Forum is all about , the free flow of ideas and opinions.

Just as you are allowed to be anti those who have a view against Ski , please make your point with respect.

ronindanbo: this is not the sky appreciation thread, all complaints here are on topic and for most Sky subscribers the only way to get feedback to Sky is to post on forums like this.

If you dont like the bleating and complaining it's simple DON't look at this thread.

on with the bleating please...

well put.

Do you really think Sky is going to act on what a few whingers say here? They are making heaps of coin, why would they take on board what is said here and including a few people who probably don't have/haven't had Sky, and make less.

There are good posts here but also whiners. No, its not the Sky Appreciation thread, but its not the Sky Bashers thread either.

Its the "Sky Is Not Worth Having Anymore" thread

Matter of opinion, what not worth it for soem is worth ot for others. If its not worth it, ditch it.

They dont make heaps of coin.  Not for the risk of building up a business from scratch with significant investment in content.
However there are some posting their comments on the basis that they are unwilling to pay for content - and that they'd rather someone else provided the content at a much lesser charge to themselves.

Without, of course, suggesting exactly how someone could establish a business plan that makes sense.
The list of failures is long - anyone remember Setanta??  You could buy just sports, and they did manage to buy the premium content (thanks to the EU and UK regulators) but still couldnt make a crust to stay in existence.

So lets all complain about the price and hope that the fairy godmother step in to offer something different.
Like motorsports at 11pm (or a week later) or a single rugby game at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon preceding the news.  Or NRL (nee Winfield Cup) at 11pm on a Friday night.

Personally I'd like to see provide a lot more content for free.  Lets have the FA Cup for 20,000 viewers and Syfy for another 20,000 viewers.  Sod the shareholders - lets have them run this business for fun.

your argument would be valid if it held any water however it dosent...

You think a company that makes a heap of coin docent need to take note of it's customers? I thoroughly disagree with you and I have the proof of Cadbury to back me up, you see Timmy every now and then a customer base gets so P/O'd and dispondant it actually mobilises and effects the businesses bottm line all in one foul swoop, Cadbury has still not recovered from trying to cheapen it's product. I am not saying this is the stage Sky is at but to say it wont happen is very short sighted.

A few people who probably dont have or havent had Sky?? I think thats a rather courageous statement which cant be backed up I think you need to appreciate that alot of people repeat ALOT of people subsribe to Sky because they are simply the lesser of the crap pedallars, Sky though I dont think should assume they can continue to raise the prices of thier product and justify it by loading more pointless content without any quality.

This is a payed service and as consumers we have the RIGHT to complain about it, I dont appreciate people like you trying to placate our rights, this is why we have ended up with crap governemnts for the past 2 decades...

As to the other bloke who says Sky dont make much coin?? lol as a shareholder I think you should not bend over while you speak.

What if Cadbury is/was your favourite?  Let me guess, put up or shut up, right?

Cadbury went from being a favourite to not very quickly.  Dont tell me that it was the "environmental" aspect of what they did that got people to vote with their wallets.  That would be like missing the point that green issues were less important, as surveyed, for people in 2009 than 2008 (it was fine until the economy meant that there were suddenly higher priorities than overpaying for organics).
Cadbury got it wrong because they changed the recipe - flavour was very different and it had an awful mouth feel (oil over butter).

If Sky suddenly dropped rugby content cos they lost the rights and said that you continue to pay the same price...... well, what do you think would happen?  Duh.

And for the record I AM NOT a Sky shareholder.  I am a Sky subscriber so bring on the extra free content that everyone's advocating.

Don't eat any chocolate sorry.
If Sky was twice or even three times the amount we pay now, I wouldn't blink.
It has everything we need at the moment, more HD would be nice, but hey - I am not one of those, "I want it all and I want it now on my terms" kind of people.

I dont know if your for or against my points as you seem to be prooving them? anyhoo the only 'free' content you get from sky id Prime, everything else you pay for, they add chanels every now and them sure, but the next years billing goes up by a couple of bucks without fail and you find the channels they added arent worth watching in the first place (yay for Travel NOT) lol.

The chocolate analogy doesn't require you to actually eat chocolate in order to answer the hypothetical question, but it's an easy way to avoid answering I suppose.

Good for you.  I'm not sure if you're trying to prove how much disposable income you have to throw around or something, but you should start your own "Sky is worth having at three times the price" thread, you could also call it the "I have more money than sense" thread if you're after an alternative title.
