Yea it really cheapens the offering. Somebody earlier mentioned about pushing people back to Decoders (I'm one of them) but when you look at it objectively its a much better solution IMHO.

Satellite has, Better PQ, Ability to record multiple channels & remote record, content on demand and the fantastic Sky Go (2 users on non concurrent channels). IMO SkyGo is a stronger offering than SSN anyway. The fact its included with Sat is just the cherry on top considering its price on its own should be similar to SSN.

I haven't had a decoder for quite a while.  What is the minimum subscription cost required to get Sky Sports via the decoder, assuming you have no interest in non-sport channels?  i.e. what min base package etc is required?

That price doesn't include recording. Need to add another $15/mth to add recording.

Works out at $70/mth on offer or $84/mth outside of offer to include recording. Compare that to $30.4/mth on black friday offer or $41.6/mth outside of offer for SkySportsNow. Its a big price difference for channels you'll never watch, ability to record, slightly better PQ and SkyGo which while I agree is a better on the go app it needs to be cast or AirPlayed to a TV.

So for us it would be twice the price effectively just to get longer than 3 hour rewind on stuff they don't have On Demand available for.  That means, for us, SSN is still a slam dunk no-brainer.  Also means no ugly dish on the roof, wiring down the side of the house, through the wall etc.  We removed all that when we renovated a few years ago.

Maybe Im old or old fashioned but Im still on 1980's tech, MySkyHDi. While I have issues with some sport events ending prematurely, it just works.

For a number of rural users though (especially those with poor broadband) that's the only option they get.

It's 2008 technology, only 16 years old, so stop exaggerating. The box has already outlived one satellite serving it and coming up on two.

Just quoting the myriad of that comment that has been on the Sky threads for many many years

Yep, for sure, that's why I qualified my comments with "for us".  There's a big requirement of stable fast internet for reliance on SSN.  We have that, but plenty of people still don't - either from where they live, or how their home Wifi etc is configured.

It is in terms of overall package, ie you get sports, movies, shows etc, but I've seen plenty of people moaning how difficult it is to find sports, replays take forever to show etc, but it's seen as the companion to the box not a standalone product.

Sky Go pic quality was superior to SSN, but SSN have picked their game up in that area over the last 12 months or so. I use an IPTV service and SSN pic is not as good as some of the feeds on that, but it's pretty close. A few years ago moving from a set top Sky box to SSN was pretty jarring in terms of PQ.

Is this not the same issue on SSN? I wouldn't be surprised if the replays are the same?

Replays from what I've seen are a bit or miss, haven't seen any evidence from SSN of replays going up quicker since the move to 6hrs, but from what I know replays historically have gone up at different times on Sky Go and SSN.

The only thing I watch from overnight that is potentially affected by the move to 6hr is English Premier League, so far my team (Spurs) have played within the window, so it hasn't been an issue, and I think if a game kicked off at say 1130pm, that replay would be up by say 630am when I'm usually up to watch the replay. But I've seen others complain about F1 predominantly...

For me its the European golf played overnight and that the 6hrs is from the start of the broadcast and not the end. The golf coverage may start at midnight and finish at 5am. When I get up at ~6am I can't watch any of it. And they never provide a full replay of the entire days coverage, just a 30min and a 2hr highlight package that will be up at some point later that day.

The test cricket replays are still starting at an arbitrary point in the game.
Day 1 of the India v Aus test 'replay' started 7 overs into the Aus innings, missing 13 wickets and 50-odd overs.
