MikeB4:

TheMightyKiwipeso:

To be fair, most of the complaints in this thread seem to be mainly unfounded "I hate all change and want the old ways to remain forever" posts.

And yes, I acknowledge there's plenty of old people who truly think this is a valid complaint to make.

However, this is a work in progress that most people are moaning about before the first major update is ready, and returning it because of some very bitter negative reviews here.

As the old saying goes "you keep learning until the day you die" applies to the new sky box, just as everything else,

I have to wonder if some of these posters would prefer to go back to VHS rentals from Video Ezy (aka Video Sleazy) ?

For the nattering naysaying nabobs of negativity out there, why not make yourself a cuppa, put on MTV80s and relax for a while ?

After all, Sky is going to do a major update in a few weeks time, and there is plenty of good TV out there rather than what's on Jones or Jones Too.

There's no point stressing out and giving it up because some halfbaked naysayer told you the new sky box will never get better.

Let's face it, being pessimistic for no reason other than to bring other people down is rather sad in itself.

If some people don't want to enjoy what's on Sky TV, then don't tell others that they can't enjoy what's on Sky TV because you don't enjoy it.

This is a retail device being sold to customers it is not a beta device. Selling a device that is "work in progress" without clear notification that this seems to be the case is not good and probably  contrary to consumer protection law. Do you buy a TV, Car, Watch etc as work in progress? no you don't. This product is clearly not being sold free of defects as prescribed in the Consumer Guarantees Act and therefore seem be in breach of consumer protection law.

As for your ageist comments and other jibes towards members of this community, these  are uncalled for, rude and probably fracturing the FUG.

I think that persistent negativity does nothing but encourage dreaming about perfection. Which is frankly pointless, as is most of this nonsense about non-software based devices.

When you have a valid point, feel free to bring it. For now, I don't care for moaning about nothing relevant to the discussion, of which there has been almost 80 pages of tripe disguised as commentary.

Frankly if some people have nothing better than negative moaning, or offering continual bad advice, then this forum is poorly served and badly in need of people under 50 to participate.

Eva888: When you pay for a device, it should work properly from the minute you plug it in. No one pays for the hours the consumer has to muck around trying to adjust it.

If it doesn’t work properly don’t sell it. If you want testers, give it away for free and don’t charge a sub until it’s working as it should.

Okay, so you've never heard of how computers or other software based devices work. Great.

I'd like a free daily access of a newspaper website while they work on the draft editions of the stories iff we follow your example for Sky.

Do you think I should get a free copy of all the stories on the post website while they draft the final edition ?

No, of course not is the reasonable answer. Why should the post journalists work to give away every story before its a finalised edition ?

Do you think something available through retail is a "work in progress"?

And did you have to deride Video Ezy? This is definitely against our FUG.

And your ageist jabs are getting tired. I think you can leave that mindset outside before posting here. If there's something about "this forum" is that we expect everyone to be respectful. This is not your Facebook or Stuff.

The groups point exactly! That is why they publish the finalised edition and not the draft. Sky has published the draft here, when we were wanting the fnalised edition.

And they did Beta testing but it didn't make it "betta" it seems

This is not your Facebook or Stuff.

Well, you've certainly not encouraged positive or optimistic commentary on this thread over the persistent moaners who won't be satisfied until everyone is as at least as unhappy as they want us all to be.

If that is an agenda within this forum, then it certainly isn't one I count as relevant, or any different to other social media dross such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Stuff comments / Neighbourly, & Twitter.

I am sorry if some people would rather have us all on a negative outlook, but frankly they are not being respectful to the rest of us through their paternalistic attitudes.

A key point of being respectful is acknowledging that the perceived wisdom of negative people is really just complaining for the sake of it, rather than meaningfully contributing knowledge that helps.

And when you have a thread of approximately 80 pages of negativity and naysaying on mostly unfounded perfectionist criticism encouraging others to sacrifice their entertainment simply because something isn't perfect,

then that is where a forum that is supposed to be about helping others with technology becomes a place where people just bring a persistently negative mindset to the discussion. Which this thread has been for over a month now.

All I am saying is that the perfectionists are being unreasonable, which is not helpful to the discussion, or respectful to others who would rather maintain a sociable outlook and actually help people.

I think you see the point, why should the first edition go for free until the last update to the story is published and then charged for ?
Surely most people would just read it when the headline is dropped, not paying at the final edition ?

Even though I'm well into the over-50 age bracket I like to think I'm reasonably down with the Agile kids, and reading this thread the new Sky units certainly don't appear to have met MVP criteria.

In addition, I've found it very useful.  Without it I probably would have swapped the MySky HDi for the new Box by now, but after reading here I'm hanging on to legacy tech for now because it just works (albeit a bit sluggish every now and then).

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Yours were neither positive or optimistic. It was plain disrespectful.

No, it's not "an agenda". You seem to be counting people with different views from you as not worth listening to.

Consumers want a product that works as well as the option it's replacing. Posting their reasoning is not disrespectful. Being ageist and snarky is.

I think we had enough of your attitude.

Nowhere in Sky's website or in their media releases have they stated that these products are unfinished, work in progress releases. Therefore it is very reasonable that the public to whom these devices are been market to believe that what they are buying is a fit for purpose product free from minor faults as required by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

Section 7 (1) of the Act states ...(b)acceptable in appearance and finish; and (c)free from minor defects; and (d) safe (e) durable

If the product does not meet this then the onus is on Sky to be clear to the customer as do software sellers do when supplying Beta releases. The Sky products are sold to the public at large and not just industry insiders

This has been a great thread to be following on these devices - positives or negatives - lots to learn.
Thats the whole purpose of these forums!

Not sure why he felt there was a need to start being disrespectful to others.
Thanks for moderating - @freitasm

I don't really follow the comparison between an obviously-not-ready-for-release Sky box and a daily newspaper - am I missing something here?

Back in the old Sky Box days we got asked for suggestions for improvements. Now a bunch of EPL fans talked about this and a consensus was for an improved remote with slow motion and a frame by frame.

Electronics have improved so that should be doable, several years later.

What did we get? Massive graphics over the screen when FFing and darkening of picture, too.

Can a software update fix this?

Impossible to delete many of the Apps. Surely that's possible??

OK, I'm a grumpy, 70+ y/o, I want RNZ National back, too.

Right now, nothing is simpler or better and I never paid to be a crash test dummy.
