That's exactly what I did.

I shall now email Sky and tell them I'm returning my, now damaged, old MySky and shall expect a working MySky box to be returned.

Then, I shall return the new sky box.

Is this where I start talking about the hardware side of things because, I tried playing Crossy road on the new sky box and it was disappointing. It was a game that I tried to check input lag from the new Skybox remote control and it was laggy. The whole graphics was jerky, with the understanding that this device can't give good graphics or rather, not designed for that stuff.

Jiriteach: OK - The major problem we are having. Most of the recordings are ending up partially recorded. What the?

Anyone else seeing this?

Cannot work this out but it could be due to the stupidity of series link.
Wife records MasterChef Australia and Lego Masters. Now the box is advertised as being able to record 5 programs at once. These are series linked so -
1. It’s recording MasterChef Australia and Lego Master at the same time so that’s 2.
2 It’s then recording the +1 channel version of these (issue with series link currently) so that’s another 2.
3. Must use one for instant rewind so that’s 1.
So overall that’s 5.

But something weird is happening and we’re ending up with partially recorded shows.
How is this box fit for purpose? Doesn’t even do what it advertises it does.

We’re not doing anything crazy - simply recording two shows on at the same time.
Utterly pointless ringing the helpdesk.

Sorry Sky - this is seriously annoying. Please make an effort to listen to feedback from customers and fix these issues.

I have just received an email from Sky headed "Still considering a new Sky Box". It says, "If you're considering upgrading to the new Sky Box we thought you might be interested in the top questions we're being asked..." However, as you would expect, there is no mention of any of the problems that people on Geekzone are reporting.

The email finishes by saying "Experience a new Sky Box with a one-off, non-refundable payment of only $50. That's $150 off the regular one-off price of $200. Offer expires 18 June 2023."

Do you think that, in light of the current issues with this box, Sky should extend the acceptance date of the special $50 price to 31 July, or even later?

By the way, does Sky allow you to keep the old box until you're satisfied that the new box is working well enough for you? I wouldn't mind trying out the new box on that basis, but I think the $50 should be refundable if you're not happy with the new box and decide to send it back - do you agree?

Yes they should but I doubt they will!

They want you to send the old boxes back - the old boxes become unusable once you actviate the new ones as the card in them is deactivated so while you can plug them back in - you will have no service. You will need to ring them to ask to be switched back - then send the boxes back etc. and hopefully they provide a refund.

Its almost like the issues are now getting worse - lol

So the previous nights its been partial recordings.

Last nights issue - MasterChef which is on series link just never started recording for some strange reason. Wife furious - giving up on recording and just going to use TVNZ On Demand.
I checked the recording schedule and its there but just didnt start recording. Then tried to browse the older recordings by hitting more and it threw an error - cannot access recordings.

Sigh - this box is a POS!

I agree. However, I believe I've read here that when you activate the new box it turns off the old box

Thanks for your reply, it's a pity that the card is not interchangeable between an old box and a new box! In light of the substantial issues you and others are experiencing, I think the special $50 price should be extended until at least 31 July until Sky sorts these issues out. I certainly wouldn't want to be paying $200 for this unit after 18 June, and I hesitate to pay even $50 for a box that currently doesn't do anywhere near as well as the old box!

Yup - new box does not use cards. Activated online via the serial number of the box.

I recieved the same offer - wasnt going to pay even that so just paying for it monthly at the moment - if these issues continue I might end up returning them as the basic fundementals are failing!

I ended up switching the 3 boxes we have - wasnt a good idea.

Well, if everyone who has the new boxes are experiencing the same problems that you are, it's almost time to get these issues aired on TV in a program like "Fair Go"! Surely Sky must be able to sort these issues out soon, it must be very embarrassing for them to have this happen and yet still be advertising the new boxes flat out when, at least in some cases, they don't seem to be fit for purpose.

Ahh the fun of being a beta tester! Although this is more like alpha (or between alpha and beta) since updates are not coming through fast enough to address the issues.

I do a bit of product beta testing for big companies - mainly networking and we have dedicated feedback channels, regular releases - multiple times a week during this process to iron out bugs etc. and info on workarounds etc. Now Sky might have this to a closed group but they should think of extending it to gain wider feedback.

I’m a power user and struggling with fundamental aspects on what this box should do - cannot even imagine what mum and dad would do!

I'm assuming if you order a new box but dont activate it, the old one will keep going without issue and you wouldnt need to send it back until activation of new box? Thinking of doing this to take advantage of the discounted offer.

I'm happy to beta test the device for Sky, but would like to know what the updates have fixed!! and most things I test or add features too doesn't get done because I'm the only one having the problem!!
