After noticing that ESPN wasn't covering 2 of the wildcard round games and they weren't scheduled to be shown on Skysport (as happened last year), I shot off an email to sky, and got the response:

Hello James,

Thank you for your email.

There will be no NFL coverage on SKY Sports and Super Bowl will not be in HD as it will air on ESPN.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours.

With kind regards,

SKY Customer Services Team

Which is a shame, considering they picked up the playoff games ESPN didnt cover last year and the Superbowl in HD despite ESPN broadcasting it.

Any other NFL fans are encouraged to send sky an email with their opinion on the matter...

pretty sure they tried it last year to see if it was popular, looks like it wasn't because this season they have stopped the Fox Monday afternoon game that was replayed in HD and they showed all the playoff games last year and if i remember a couple were in HD

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Maybe they didnt buy the Fox rights this year?
ESPN International only ever get half of the playoff games - I cant remember whether it bought the CBS or NBC rights.  But Fox has about half of the draw.

And if Sky didnt get the Fox games during the regular season then no playoffs.
And Fox has Superbowl.

Hard to believe that Fox and Sky have a common parent but struggle to get prices sorted between each other.
Should be easier not harder.

I know it's not the same as being able to watch it for 'free' as part of your sky sports package, but you can view all the playoffs & superbowl in hd on your pc (for a price); then hook your pc up to your tv (I do this for NHL games).

I asked the question at the beginning of the year as to why no HD games and the reply was that they were screening the 3rd game per week (end of week) and as a result relinquished rights to the HD coverage
all I can say it suxs!!!
Least we get one ice hockey game in HD Yaya!!

Well, if you want to pay $160 US at the beginning of the season, and less as the season goes on, you can watch every single NHL game (not sure if they're in HD or not), including every playoff game. It's awesome finally being able to follow my team again. And this year they implemented a feature where you can listen to either team's broadcast, instead of having to listen to the opposing team's commentator's diss your team lol

If you miss the game live, you can watch it later. Oh, they've got classic games as well from the 60s, 70s 80s, which are fun to watch. No helmets, no ads on the boards.

Thats the US model.  Not a dedicated sports tier but "tickets" for each code.  NHL , NFL, MLB and NBA all have their separate packages to give you access to lots of games.
Imagine if you had to subscribe to the Rugby channel to see all the Super 14/15 games.  You might get one or two on the main sports channels but not the lot every week.

Sky seem to have real issues for some reason acquiring stuff from Fox Sports. It seemed to be the same with Major League Baseball as well. Maybe they charge a bundle.

I wanted to see some of the games yesterday, so I sucked it in and bought Gamepass for the week. On HQ it looks amazing, but I imagine it'd chew through the data.

Sky seem very reluctant this year to pick up any extra NFL coverage. Not sure why, maybe it's just too expensive. Or that John Fellet's team failed to make the playoffs ;-)

He'd be an Arizona Cardinals fan.

Rumour is that most of the News Corp subsidaries are difficult to deal with.  20th Century Fox, NDS, Fox News, etc etc.  Surely any extra revenue paid up from those that wouldnt bother otherwise has to be better than none at all - especially for a related party.  I bet John Malone @ Liberty doesnt have the same attitude.

Cant beleive that the Saints suffered at the hands of the 7-9 Seahawks!
But can believe that Vick choked and let the Packers through.

This sucks.  The NFL coverage this year has been appalling (not that it's ever been great).  ESPN showed more college games than wildcard games this week - that's sh * t!  I know SKY don't control what ESPN shows but SKY could at least get one of the biggest sporting events on the calendar in HD.

I emailed SKY just to add my name to the list of people who want to see the SB in HD.  EVeryone please do the same.

Hi, please tell me the Superbowl is in HD again this year.  As a fan of the NFL I feel I have been completely shafted by SKY with the reduction in games, the lack of ANY games being shown in HD and now potentially not seeing the Superbowl in HD.
Please show the SuperBowl in HD as you did last year.  I remember last year you arranged to show it in HD at the last minute, please don't let us loyal subscribers down again.

College Bowl games are huge drawcards for ESPN.  I would say it pays big money for those rights but it looks like the current ESPN coverage is being negotiated for an extension.  AT this stage the rumour mill says $1.8bn pa for Monday night plus the current lineup of playoffs.  ESPN dont get to show the SB domestically though.

And this doesnt include ESPN International which has a different set of rights - and extended the rights to 2013 or 2014.
