read the media release linked below, it defines the rights well. SKY are the only ones with the rights to broadcast all 48 games live. Other channels, including Maori, have rights to broadcast some of the games live.
Maori also has the rights to broadcast all games delayed.

Maybe sky is the main broadcaster on it and it's there camra crew doing rugby world cup. And fta channels buy the right off sky to rebroadcast it

maori channel have been running a campaign of confusion to make out that they have all the games live.

they have 2 posters.

one says "all big games, all live." the other says "all 48 games." and they place them right next to each other. this gives the appearance they have all 48 games live when in fact they can only show 16 games live the rest are delayed.

Only sky can show all 48 games live.

I think TV3 are showing the NZ/France game live, Quarter Final 2 and 4 live, Semi Final 1 and 2 live and the Final and Bronze playoff games live. So 7 games live?? must have the cash for that?

I think TV1 also have roughly the same number of live games, and Maori have a few more live than either of them.

Crazy that on the final, it's on TV1, TV3, MaoriTV, Te Reo, Sky sport 1 and the Rugby channel all at the same time!

don't mess with me.... i'm the hd insider....

Don't forget it will be on TV3+1 an hour later, just in case you missed it the first time!

It was mentioned on fair go , and they mentioned that it was at least confusing. But yes sky are showing all games live, adn maori are only showing all the big games live. What are the big games is subjective though. To an Canadian, the big games would involve canada.
In my opinion, the only games worth watching are those that are on FTA anyway.

And TV3 will have the best picture and sound of the lot.

The Government interceded when the rights were announced - Sky and MaoriTV got the rights (if i remember correctly).  The brohaha from the notion that not everyone could receive MaoriTV as a FTA signal and that paytv had the lot resulted in a revised bid involving TVNZ/TV3/Maori getting the "big matches" with Sky still carrying all games.  There may or may not have been government funding involved.

The confusion amongst the masses and the fact that one now has to have paytv to watch something other than rugby during the "big matches" highlights the perversities of Government meddling.

And that TVNZ was outbid by MaoriTV in the initial deal shows how much it values the importance of the national game (and "premium" content).  Of course whinging afterwards means that you still get a seat at the table.

Funny you should say that because their audio was out of sync in the All Blacks vs Tonga game.

Agreed, Hamish McKay should not commentate. :-) Might just have to turnt he sound down and turn the radio on for the commentary if the games are on TV3.

The opening game on TV1 was beautiful compared to what was on sky, as I refuse to pay another $10 a month to sky for HD content. I think it sucks having to pay extra to get HD sport on sky, speshly when TV1 and 3 have the big games for free in HD.
