So it seems both Vodafone and Telecom have sold out of the iPhone 5 in pre-order sales, so what does that mean for the rest of us?

Is all the NZ stock up for pre-order? Or do they have a limit? They said certain stores will be open at mid-night, and most of the Telecom stores in Auckland will sell them on the day, but are these actually going to be available for sale to the general public?

Why do you feel that pre orders consumed all stocks?

The Telecom site says "sold out" under all the models, but doesn't specify if its just a certain amount of stock, or all stock.

I think he has seen these..

https://www.vodafone.co.nz/iphone5/buy/

Online pre-orders for all models have been very popular and, for the moment, we?re out of stock. On this page you can check out the cost of a mobile with a plan but for the moment you will not be able to place an order.

We?ve sold out of our pre-order stock, but great news is that the wait is nearly over. We will be launching the iPhone 5 across 34 Telecom stores nationwide on Friday 28 September. Stock is limited so be in quick.

And the ~8 week delays now expected in the US..

NBR released an article recently..

Looks like the perferred sales method is with a contract too, so there may not be many handset onlys at all

Certainly a bit of an unknown. Hard to know what stocks Apple has for online orders, or what delays there may be when NZ stocks are out. No contract option for me, I am still in contract, but I won't be going into any contracts from now on.

Online is like another store, sure they have stock but not all of it. There are midnight releases + the stores get stock too.

Vodafone (and Telecom for the iPhone4) haven't allowed outright purchases at launch for the last few models. I would highly doubt this will change.

My friends partner got a call from Vodafone the other day and got the IPHONE 5 offered to him what he took on a new 24 month contract.

My Contract has just finished but no phone call :-(.

Not that I would downgrade to an IPHONE anyway.
