I will make some regular postings in here over the next few days as time permits, if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

Although EVDO itself is not being rolled out everywhere straightaway, other T3G servcies are - i.e. in -any- 027 coverage you will still be able to video message, video stream and push to talk.

EVDOs latency is less than 200ms (GPRS can be 2 - 5 seconds on a bad day), so EVDO is great for Citrix sessions.

Data Session Handovers -

EVDO - 1x 2 - 3 second pause, then full resume at the lower speed
1x - EVDO - no delay, stay on 1x till your connection goes dormant or you reconnect, then you will be on EVDO.

Haha laugh at vodafone!!! Anyway i hear that the push to talk will only be avaiable to on account customers for the first while. How long until it will be available to prepay customers?

I have no idea about availability of PTT to certain customers. I think it will be available to all, but thats just speculation

Ahhhh.. PTT for all POSTPAID customers when it launches. And prepaid customers will have the service a little later on in 2005. (Telecom gets a new billing system in March, it might be tied to that)

Is it going to be (the new Billing) in March only? Thought could be earlier.

March is the time as far as im aware, but im a bit out of the loop as far as the billing system goes.

Expect to see photo messaging extended, and probably free video messaging for a while as well.

I need to change the connection details for my evdo card (Sieera 580) for for a private connection - not thru jamamobille - does anyone know how to do this - the wirells helpdesk said i coulldnt do it until a new watcher program was released, in the next month or two apparently.

Any help appreciated.

How secure is the EVDO system?

Perhaps any plans for a lower range data service with the harriers - eg a 50mb plan?

Craigbov - you can use the AirCard on Telecom Private Office. If you are running XP go to Control Panel - Network Connections - Create a new connection and select 'Sierra Wireless AirCard 580' as the modem. Put in your user name and password. Don't have Watcher running when you connect.

Torque - CDMA EVDO is very secure across the air link. It is near impossible to crack with a very high level of encryption. Once you hit the internet then it is up to you to make sure your device is secure against all the normal internet nasties.

You might want to consider the Mobile Broadband Casual plan which is $10.00 p/mth access and $1.00 p/meg used.
