Maxcat:

One of the issues that is going to come up is what to do with Activating and Deactivating Tivos.

And what to do with Tivos have been deactivated and ready for sale.

Are they paperweights irrespective of the new EPG from Oz?

When I was using the S1 Tivo, the activation / deactivation status was not an issue as you just re-imaged the disc which then communicated with the regionally run server.

Are there additional hardware locks in the new TiVo that means that, even with the new prom, additional features prevent usage?

You can't deactivate or activate a Tivo now as the myTivo portal is gone. Deactivating was useful if you sold it to someone else who wanted to add it to their HNP or at least access the Genie for offline programming. All that's gone (for now).

If you have a deactivated or activated Tivo, you can still do a guided setup against the new OzTivo mothership should you have to, for example if your hard drive fails, as long as you have the PROM chip replaced and new community software/patch installed, so all good.

If you have the HNP, don't do a full clear and delete and guided setup, as you'll lose your HNP capability as the MAK (media access key) will be lost.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

TonyS071: The sacrificial approach to prom extraction described above really makes this process seem viable again. It was the removal of the entire package that looked the scariest step. Brilliant. I am going to order a set of flux/lowtemp solder and wick. I am aware of 5 tivos in my circle of friends and I think I will be busy doing this for a while. Who knows, if it works out well, I might be able to help others in wellington out. If anyone here is willing to sell me a few chips and sockets, pm me. I understand stocks are low right now, I mean when supplies arrive.

If by "flux/lowtemp solder" then please remember that this solder should be removed before soldering in the socket or chip using normal solder (or preferably solder paste).

Soldering with normal solder is much easier if you use the smallest diameter solder you can get.  I've got some that is something like .46mm if anyone needs some.  Also, make sure you get lead solder, if you don't have much practice you definitely don't want lead free solder for this job.

What I would like is to be pointed to the place to buy 2 chips, | want to get onto this as soon as.

@TCSwivel Please read through the current TiVo discussions, as the information you seek has been mentioned many, many times. Cheers

You've waited until the last minute, just like the rest of us :).

The chips are on back-order and may take a few weeks.  Find @Spong in this thread who may be able to help (in a few weeks)

I'm baffled as to what to do with our main 2tb tivo stuck on 11.3b6-xxx

I have not applied any mods to it yet. The recordings it has are still quite extensive even though we have had a huge cleanout.

I know I can easily resolve it by re imaging the drive to 11.3b10-xxx but not only will I loose all the programs but also HNP capability.

I think I saw mentioned 'clive100' "Presumably" updated  from 11.3b6-xxx which gave me hope but still no success.

May just have to resign to wiping everything and losing HNP.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Have you tried going into messages & settings, settings, network, connect to the tivo service now. Let it do it’s thing, then do a restart via the tivo menu, and then repeat the connect to tivo service. Then leave for 24hrs.

As I had the same problem 2 yr ago After I replaced the hdd with an old image.

Things still seem to be up as I did a manual connect just now.

Two days ago, (November 1st, about 6PM) I re imaged my very old backup image (from about 5 years ago) to a new 2TB HD. I put the drive into a Tivo that had HNP. After a couple of connections to the official mothership my HNP was restored onto my new disk (and fully updated).

I would therefore think that while the mothership is still handing out updates, you will be able to get your HNP back onto a newly imaged HD. If you did this to a new HD rather than your current one, there is no risk in trying.

I have been trying every combination I can think of, Multiple connect to service and reboots. Although the connect to service is fairly brief and I never get the 'restart pending' notification.

I've also tried redoing guided setup with connect to service and currently trying delete program information and to do list followed by restarts and connect to service (Always 2-3 times).

All just short of delete everything and start again.

Giving me hope though sharing your experience. It may still work yet!

Thanks Daniel, Good to know. That must mean HNP is pegged to serial. all i'm trying to save then is pre recorded programs by trying to get the tivo up from 11.3b6-xxx to 11.3b10-xxx

Although in saying that, was the old image from the same tivo with the same HNP number. May have got excited too soon.

Did the hdd patch tonight without any issue.

Is there a good guide somewhere to all the unlocked features and how to use etc ?    Especially the 30 second skip.

Also, if the mothership is still active, how does one know that its getting the guide from elseware ?   Just out of curiosity ?

Also saw some new menu options, one being a dial code which said all 0's, I didn't enter in anything.

I believe 000 is the old mothership and 140 is the new mothership. the patch would have already changed it to 140.

I found this on the 30 second skip:

I have not tried this feature yet.

Just about given up on the firmware update, Spent the whole evening trying all sorts of service connection / deleting / restart combinations. Now trying some power cycling. Will also add jumping on one leg while clapping with one eye closed for good measure!

May just have to change out the chip and leave it on 11.3b6-xxx, Binge watch until my eyes fall out and once there is nothing left to watch or don't know what there is to watch and look like this emoji:    Then Re-image to 11.3b10-xxx then patch.

My other tivo's were simply "yea sure......Update, Done"

Grrrrrrr.

The network connection should take at least 15 mins to complete, if its instant, its not syncing properly.

Under System Information, is the Tivo Service Level saying C:-   &    TivoToGo saying a,a,a     &   Tivo Account Status saying product lifetime.

As when I did the HDD swap, I had this problem ie network connection was instant, and eventually I had guide issues etc.   The above mentioned settings I didn't have.

When I contacted the tivo helpdesk at the time, they said my box had got out of sync and they had to force a re-sync on my account at their end.    Once they did that, I was all good.

Thus unfortunately, I wonder if thats your problem.
