About the same price as the Pi, much faster, can do 4K and runs Kodi really really well. Also has a IR receiver built in and can learn the "crappy never used" buttons on your TV remote.

I like the Odroid-C2 idea!

Interesting thread, although I only read the first page! I'd read more if i had more time.

One thing that seems possible to me is that someone in china could bring us a device that can do ALL what TiVo did, plus some.

And we know that some of those in china do not care about patents etc, and could produce it much smaller for cheap... [although it won't last as long!] :-)

There is work underway I believe to keep it going. I am not sure how far everyone will get but anyone with a old TiVo they don't want, or people handy with a soldering iron and comfortable soldiering surface mount chips might be handy to know.

Tivo has a grid UI, Panny doesnt. Tivo has thumbs up/down, who cares, no one uses it. To me, the grid UI is what we all want. Thats all.

Bought a Panasonic BWT 760 a couple of weeks ago while on special at Harvey Norman. It has a grid UI for guide info, setting up recording etc. Has a few idiosyncrasies and not as intuitive as the Tivo, but overall it's not bad.

You should probably read the last page... where some have given up and are using MythTV and nothing much else is happening at all.

I think the ball is solely in Tivos (who owns the license) court to help, as they are ones who can easily solve this by running the service needed from the USA instead of Australia. But it doesn't look like the are going to do anything based on their responses to NZ customers on their Tivo facebook page, which has just referred people back to the tivo NZ webpage announcement.

@tdgeek I surrendered with the Panasonic paper weight, I negotiated a refund from Harvey Norman/ Panasonic on the grounds that the device was not durable or free from fault.

Good to hear Mike. Did it have a grid UI as the poster above says? I gather that the main issue for the Tivo lovers is that Freeview devices dont have a grid UI so I was surprised by allan post.

Also Tivo caches the guide, 2 weeks at a time, so is faster that other set top boxes when navigating through it (so I've been told - I only ever used a Tivo).
