Unmetered data on a Telecom Broadband connection.
You of course need to pay to have a Telecom Broadband service to start with.

I don't mean to quash any "win, I can get the same stuff without xtra" dreams.. but:

To receive the whole TiVo® service you will need to be a Telecom broadband customer. The whole TiVo service combines the award winning digital video recording (DVR) features of the TiVo media device with a broadband content and service offering which includes the ability to download movies and television programs on-demand with no impact on your internet data allowance.

Anyone can purchase a TiVo media device through Telecom, but they will not enjoy the whole TiVo service (including broadband content and services, as well as unmetered access to TiVo downloads) without Telecom broadband.

Totally Disgusted.

So since I do not use Telecom I cannot get the epg according to the article I read. Been so waiting for this thats the end of me as a customer.

I think they're referring to unmetered downloads as part of the "whole experience". I'd be very surprised if it doesn't work at all with other ISPs.

You should be able to get all the basics no worries, like your epg. I would say you will miss out on something like tvnz on demand should they want to bring that to TiVo

Their FAQ page is very clear:

"What if I am not a Telecom customer? What do I get?
A non-Telecom broadband customer can buy a TiVo media device and they can enjoy all features of the TiVo except the broadband content and services.

This basic service includes the 14-day on-screen TV guide (Electronic Programme Guide), the ability to view the Freeview|HD® channels and core DVR features of the TiVo media device."

I guess that's why they removed some people from the beta trials.

Not happy. Already a crappy service.

Given that so many people across the country are not Telecom customers and Tivo would be wanting to get as much market penetration as possible in order to be profitable, I find this quite bizarre.

I have no intention of getting a Telecom broadband connection, so it seems there is absolutely no incentive for me to even consider purchasing one of these devices any more.

Mauricio, yes, that FAQ does make it clear. Where did you find that page? The only FAQ I could find on mytivo.co.nz doesn't even contain the word "Telecom".

I'm disappointed HybridTV have tied themselves to Telecom. For a whole load of reasons, I won't touch Telecom's ISP services, and subsequently that limits the value I'd get from Tivo.

I'd have far rather seen HybridTV launch Tivo as a standalone product on its own abilities, and let ISPs develop services around it. Hell, you've got a reputation as the world-leading PVR, why bundle yourself into the offerings of some large corporate? What do they hope to gain from that?

I wonder where the Tivo systems will get the EPG data from? I've a lot of respect for anyone who develops their own XMLTV grabber (DJKXML and others) but an "official" source of EPG data would be nice to have.
