Correct. It looks like the EPG will be available to any Tivo owner - you just need a broadband connection.

Of course, that leads to the question if whether non-Tivo owners can get access to the EPG; there are already scripts and programs out there to convert Tivo listings to XMLTV format, so it may be possible to use this with non-Tivo PVRs.

Ditto to that. Likewise, waiting for TiVo to be announced but when they also announced exclusivity with Telecom my mind was made up as well. I wont be getting a tivo

Why would I abandon my ISP, who co-incidentally just won the TUANZ ISP of the year, just so I can get onto the Telecom/Tivo bandwagon.

This reeks of anti-competitive, monopolistic behaviour. Telecom strikes once again.

Tivo + Telcom NZ = FAIL...

In what ways?

There is absolutely nothing stopping you using a Tivo with any ISP you want. You'll get all the core functionality which is to watch and record TV shows and get an onscreen EPG.

All you miss out on not being a Telecom customer is the Movie download service (that has a fee per movie download and has ~250 movies available). To me that's hardly a significant loss.

And it works as well !!
They got me back back from where I was at xnet and i'm glad i came back.
I moved because of constant mail server outages and slow speeds and general outages, also of course to get tivo and dump sky :-)
95% of my viewing is free to air on sky and @ $94 a month it has to go I'm afraid...

I also didn't consider it anti-competitive, monopolistic behaviour. I thought it was a very good business plan on both their parts, tivo aligning themselves with the biggest ISP in the country. After all they are both in Business to make money and they are both going to pick the most profitable way of doing that to reach the widest audience ...

Hey, if you don't want to go to telecom stay where you are, its your choice and as above Tivo works with any ISP !
