Hey,

We had solar + battery installed a few weeks ago, and today we have finally had the two-way meter installed and up and running.

Now, chatting to our current power company Mercury, they are saying it can take up to two months for the buy-back to appear on our bill. This seems quite extreme and slow, and it means giving away power back to the grid for nothing for the next two more months!

Is this normal, or is Mercury being extra slow?

Thanks in advance

It doesn't mean you wont see that buy back. It just means it "may" take up to 2 months for it to appear on your bill.

We are with Genesis and we saw buy back on our bill straight away.

Have started the switch to Ecotricity (much better rates, since Mercury weren't even slightly interested in offering better rates), and they've said it can take up to a week to start seeing the data, but not 2 months.

When I asked Mercury if we'd still get the buy back (i.e. back paid) once it starts appearing, the answer was "I don't know, I don't think so, you just have to wait and see". Not overly helpful and not overly assuring. Happy to be moving suppliers.

Just be aware your now delaying the process further and risk potential issues whilst switching. If the call center cant answer your questions ask to speak to someone in the back office.

We were likely always going to switch as Mercury's rates here are pretty poor in comparison.

I've purposefully waited until the meter was replaced before starting this process (as per advice from our installer) - and Ecotricity were confident it'd all be up and running in both directions within 5-10 days.

Can't get much worse than 2 months either wya...
