Did any of you see this post by Greg Size last month? https://www.energylink.co.nz/news/blog/should-i-stay-spot-or-switch

The key message to me is that there will be good years and bad years and it might therefore pay to save some of the money you make in the good years for the bad ones (unless you think you can switch away and back again at the right times).

Also, I think talk of a great exodus might be a little exaggerated - Flick increased its customer base by another 1,3000 customers last month (see www.emi.ea.govt.nz/r/wvyov).

Keep the innovative ideas for controlling load in response to price coming!

Oops, typo- that should have been an increase of 1,300 customers in May. Where their customer base goes in June might be interesting...

54c per unit plus lines fees according to the NRS schedule on electricity info. Good thing I got home from work early today. Even though my peak time usage is already really low, I'll still see if there is anything I can switch off.

The forecast keeps changing. It was 50c/unit here a while back, but it's settled to 30c/unit.

Got a phone call from Flick today after I sent them an email last week querying ripple control or similar for hot water tank. Got to say the guy that called was great, discussed the options and said his preferred was to get a timer fitted like some people on here (which is something I am considering). He asked if I had any other questions and I asked if he could lower the spot price... that got a two minute speel along the lines of their email. Right at the end of the call he mentioned that he saw that we were moving away and wanted me to know that we'd be welcome back at Flick anytime. He didn't try to talk me out of it or put a negative spin on it, just said he understood why we would look at moving and if and when we wanted to come back Flick would gladly set us up again. This was the completed opposite of Contact's call when I switched to Flick. With customer service like that I will certainly return to Flick after winter.

For me at least prices are showing signs of dropping. South island inflows are up again.

Also of note is that despite the amount of stored water continuing to drop, the further we go through winter, the less risk there is. As reflected in the curved % risk lines.

Sure, we are definitely not out of the woods yet. But compared to 1 month ago, things are less risky now. And after another month, even with things continuing as they are now, the generators will then be able to let rip with the remaining water. As the worst of winter will be over, and the spring inflows will soon be on their way.

If these same water inflow patterns had happened 2 or 3 months earlier, we would have been stuffed.

Also the higher south inflows should help to take the edge off South island wholesale prices. As alot of the high South island pricing is caused by constraints on transferring large amounts of power south. Here is a Transpower PDF on the challenges of making large south power transfers.

My wife just advised she saw 81.2c in Chch 10 mins ago. Counting down the days until we move to EK (should be no later than Friday.....). Last weeks bill shows savings of -19%...

Our latest bill was the first negative savings we've had with flick since we joined at -7% for the week ending 18 June. The following week is shaping up to be similar. We're sticking to a fairly strict routine to keep as much usage to off-peak as possible so we haven't been bitten too hard, but it has got very tiresome.

We requested our move on the 15th so hopefully it will happen any day now.

Thanks, I feel mine is taking longer than it should, so I'm hassling Flick and EK to find out what's happening.

Tried signing up with Flick but looks like they're not taking on new customers in my area at this stage. Anyone know anything more around this? Not sure if I'm likely to be waiting days/weeks/months.
