Hi,

Does anyone have a garage door opener that looks like the one below?

This is a photo of our opener through the garage window. We can't find our spare remote and this one is locked inside the roller door garage. The only way in and out of the garage is through the automatic door. I think these openers have dip switches inside to select the code, so I presume that if I can borrow a remote from someone then I can get into my garage without breaking a window.

Unless someone has some other ideas.

Without being able to see the pin pattern on your current remote I am not sure how you will be able to get the correct pattern without a lot of attempts.  Is the window using putty?  If so just remove the putty pull out the glazing points and then lift the glass out whole.

I think it's an 8 dip-switch remote, 256 combinations. Could probably do that in an hour or so.

I think it is more like 8 factorial combinations equating to 40320...if window aluminium, pull out the rubber seal, remove the inserts could be an option.

Congratulations. You're about to find out how secure your garage really is!!!

Assuming your garage door rolls up, see if you can force the door by manually lifting it.... but don't try too hard, just enough to get the door open.

If that fails then the earlier suggestions about windows & putty sounds like an option.

When you do finally gain access, remember this moment and this should stop you doing it again!!!!

I am sure a door company would have that one. Try garador / dominator because as I think they used to do those ones. My grandma used to have that exact remote. From memory it doe# have 8 dipswitches in it.

Assuming that each switch has two possible positions then it's essentially an 8-bit number, ie. 0 through 255.

Yea I'm pretty sure i remember repairing it and it had 8x dip switches inside. The problem is knowing what frequency it was. It looks a lot like this one, but the colour of the button is wrong.

If someone has this remote they could take Photo of the inside of the remote or tell me what the frequency was.

Trying to lift the door is a good start. The drum won't turn but many installers never bolted the curtain in its down position to the drum. If this is the case when lifted the door slides up over the drum. You only need enough openning to slide under the edge.

Dip switches have 2 positions. That's binary.
2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256

If you can get 40320 different combinations from 8 switches, you'll have a job anywhere of your choosing with any salary you like.

Door won't lift even with power disengaged.

He would probably power cycle the mains switch powering the the garage, which would override it. Maybe there is a way of way to do this somehow. But it is always the problem when developers build on the cheap, and don't have a door into the garage. I have seen it with some retirement units, where they didn't even have a window, and the door failed. I believe they had to replace the door as they had to slice into it.
