I generate a bit of green-waste - have quite a few trees and hedges that always seem to need a trim. My usual go-to is a 2 M3 Flexibin but it's expensive - $49 for the bin and $99 for the collect - $75 per M3. There are some garden bag companies that do a 600L bag on a frame and collect every 28 days for $32 so $53 per M3. On the face of it cheaper and convenient but not if you don't fill it.

Anyone using the 4 weekly garden bag (or wheelie bin) service? Do you find sometimes you are paying for them to take away basically nothing? Can you skip a collect easily?

Cheers

I use a monthly wheelie bin and its inconsistent in how full it is - I mulch the grass so its mainly weeds and trimming of vegetation from the boundary so its not often its really full but I guess if I didn't have it then I would have no where to store the stuff I do have until I could get a bag... so yeah paying for a service that I do not use regularly but is needed as I don't have space for compost or even the desire any more.

I have a 240l wheelie bin for our garden waste which is on a Pay As U Go service from Waste Management. Collection is monthly but I am able to skip collections. I think it costs me about 40c more per collection for this service compared to their non-skippable service. I pay $16.80 per collection. I probably skip about 3 or 4 collections per year.

johno1234: Thanks I will have a look at WM…

Looking at the truck that comes to collect the various green bins in our road, WM seem to always be the ones emptying the bins, no matter the brand advertised on the bin itself.

We also use WM for a 240L bin, just renewed for $174 annually (+$4). Collection every four weeks. It's always full!

I recall having the garden bag on a frame, it was pretty much one of those bulk wool bail bags.

you were allowed to cancel a collection (within reasonable advanced notice), but were not able to cancel two collections in a row and I think only allowed to cancel two collections a year maybe.

anyway, fast forward a long time…I own my own wool bail bag (Bunnings sell them), and just fill it as needed and squash it into my hatch back and off to the green waste dump when I need to…   A bit more extra work cutting branches into smaller pieces but it works and saves me having to borrow a car with tow ball and then hire a trailer.

Can confirm WM collect the Flexibin brand.

have a 240L bin with Garden Bins, paying $16/month, for collection every 4 weeks. They send a reminder the week of collection. I can't recall if there's an option to skip a collection.

I'm with Greenfingers. They don't allow skips.  They stopped coming up my driveway so I now need to take the bin down to the road. So if you're up a long driveway confirm they'll come up.  Now have a wheelie bin with them. Not the same cubic meters as the bag but use mulching feature on new lawn mower so no grass now
