freitasm: Wait, what? Can you pay Hulu Plus via Amazon? Or is it a trial sponsored by Amazon?

Yep, thats what it looks like.  The payment method mentioned is my default Amazon credit card.  No more payment issues for Hulu Plus!

Can you please explain the default Amazon credit card? I'm currently using the air new zealand smart card.

I mean whatever is your default payment method on Amazon.com, for me that is an ASB Visa Card.

rp1790: Hulu Plus works, trying it on the 1 week trial, which is paid for via Amazon, no card/payment issues.

So you didn't have to do anything like set the country or use a 3rd party service to get Hulu to play in NZ, or?

Pretty sure you'd have to have a proxy/VPN setup to use it. UnblockUS can be setup on the device.

Hopefully mine will leave the YouShop warehouse today as well. Looking forward to getting a (hopefully) more stable Plex client than my Samsung "Smart-TV".

Hmm, thats the one thing that is giving me trouble so far.  When playing videos it drops out and stops playing with a popup message on screen that only appears for a second, can't see what it says.  Have to re-start play again.  Has happened several times so far.

I have found Plex on Samsung very stable. Every so often it runs into a file that it just drops out of, but I think that is more the encoding on the file (in the case of a downloaded one).

Since I last checked for Plex updates (about 2 months ago), I have not had a problem. Don't know if that is the update, or the fact that the files I'm playing are good.

Hi There!

Can you put mkv, or xvid files on a USB stick and play them,or does it support playback from a SMB Share or other form of LAN based access to files?

Playback from usb is not available as of yet. You can see the device is plugged into the port but the user doesn't have access to mount the drive (hopefully this changes with root access). SMB works fine via xbmc or any other similar app.

Wow. I just discovered Plex. I had a e-gasm and have removed mezmo forever from my computer. How did I not know about this earlier?

Stealing this from another forum

Checked power consumption of the Firetv. During boot it consumes about 4 watts and peaked at 6 for a couple of seconds after that idled at 2.5 watts. tried playing a movie on xbmc most current build and its about the same as idle. varies from 3.7 - 4 watts. this was measured with a p3 kill-a-watt.

Wow that is great power usage. Considering its replacing a 160w i7 laptop (massive overkill i know) I will notice a small drop in power usage ;)

Well, after a couple of days at home watching a TV series back to back, and odd movies with Plex I have to say it's not currently usable.  Has major issues with MKV files, some play and then stop part way through, some don't play at all.  Continually stops playing with a popup message saying "Can't play video".

Hopefully the Plex dev team will put out a fix shortly.  For now will have to revert back to my MacMini for reliable Plex playback.

That would still be ok for me - only really getting it for Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, as everything else is played through our HTPC. The only reason getting the Fire TV is so that we don't have to jump to a browser to watch Netflix...
