robjg63: We know that at least vodafone is aware of this thread. Apart from saying its a co-incidence that telecom also has issues (and both have interests in streaming content), there has been no suggestion of assistance or investigation.

Some sort of international traffic is being clobbered - can the isps confirm that they definitely arent responsible...?

While I know that trying to access something that is geoblocked is not strictly kosher, there is some sort of issue going on. How do we know its not causing some other (as yet unnoticed) issues.

if it was this then wouldn't other services be affected?  Hulu, vudu, itunes, amazon, crackle, youtube, and the other netflix regions?

UnoTellyNick: Hi all,

In case you need a VPN service during this outage, we have 3-day free VPN service. You can try it here: http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/60447-how-to-sign-up-for-a-3-day-unovpn

As someone who has subscribed for a full year on the DNS plan, my preference is for you to try your best to give me back reliable access to Netflix using my subscription. For assorted reasons that others have given, in many ways VPN isn't an adequate substitute. As of today, on VF ADSL Netflix USA is basically unusable for me with a pile of 8201 errors.

I concur.

We've found that using VPN as a fallback has proven to be less than reliable with our current infrastructure. To be fair, this is more to do with the final hop of the journey, as getting the content to AirPlay to our Apple TV fails more often than it succeeds.

I've also not been able to successfully use the VPN on my laptop. I can connect, but my NZ IP address is still the one shown if I navigate to http://ipcheck.unotelly.com, and NetFlix geoblocks me at the gate. But even if I could get it working on my laptop, that is not the longterm solution I want (nor do I want to have to spend money on a dedicated HTPC for this purpose).

Vodafone have told me previously they will not investigate issues related to Netflix due a conflict of interest with their Partner Sky TV.

Further testing this morning reveals that NetFlix Canada is also affected for me by this current issue. It's interesting to note that NetFlix UK and US maintain different watch history lists, but the US and Canadian versions on the surface appear to have the same one. I'm not sure if that is indicative of a stronger link between those two jurisdictions, or more a reflection of greater parity of content.

This was also reported yesterday - we should probably consider US and cAN to be largely the same (which makes sense, if we were to ever have a version down here it would be likely the same infrastructure as AUS - particularly since the local node of AWS (Amazon Web Services) - which is whst NF is run on would be Sydney) its worth noting (maybe) that AWS doesnt have a CAN region, theres only Oregon, N California and N Virginia, so undoubtably the US and CAN NF run on the same infrastructure

If Telecom are trying to 'clobber' international traffic and/or Netflix, then they are not doing a very good job as I have had no issues with NF USA at all.

Strange, it must only be some telecom customers.

I was not aware of the issues, and watched a few episodes of HoC yesterday. Buffered fast, menus loaded fast.

Netflix US
AppleTV
Telecom ADSL2
UnoTelly DNS in ATV settings only (nothing changed on router).

I have exactly the same config as you, but Netflix US is effectively dead in the water for us. If only we could nail what the actual difference is between our configurations, we may go some way to discovering why it isn't working for all users. Do we need to dig deeper and discuss the actual hardware we're all using to see if there is any correlation there? FWIW, we have a Draytek Vigor 120 modem, and Apple Airport Extreme (5th gen)

213.5.182.117 - http://playmo.tv. Testing this on my Vodafone connection, nothing but streaming... no errors so far :-)

If it continues will be switching from unblock-us to playmo :-)

As a bonus have HD streaming back too :-)

What about the content also?  Ie see if HoC works.

I'm also telecom, ASDL2, 15gb Plan, using unblockus.  US is down for me.  I haven't tried HoC though.

Good idea.

I am with Telecom and have had no issues with NF USA.

Telecom ADSL2+ 150Gb plan
UnoTelly (the plan that does not have VPN)
My router is the standard Telecom issue Thompson (sorry don't have model number at work)
No changes to router, only put UnoTelly settings into each device.

What devices work: laptops, iPhone 4s, iPad 3 gen, Sony BR player that has NF app.

And in case this has some impact: I pay with an Entropay virtual credit card.

Thats a good idea. We've been primarily focusing on what we've been trying to watch (The West Wing - Season 4). I just tried the US House of Cards, and thats not working for me. I then tried the UK House of Cards (on US Netflix), and got the redirect to the quickstart3.unotelly.com URL, which has been happening a bit over the last few days.

As for payment: We do use our normal NZ credit card for that, but I suspect that probably isn't the issue. Would be another interesting metric to track though.

Another metric to throw out there: While we are also on the Telecom 150GB plan, our broadband is currently unmetered. According to the letter we got way back when, this is due to ongoing infrastructure work (possibly related to the Tivo we own but never use... details on that are hazy).

So very similar, no Tivo here, so no unmetering.  Paid via iTunes US account.  So another difference there also.  I'll have to try HoC tonight, but I suspect like you it wont work.
