Stu: That's $7.99 per person, with the Premium account allowing up to 2 additional people, the Standard account only 1 additional. That's quite a bit more than the $4 or $5 for an additional household suggested a number of times earlier in this thread.

not as cheap as first anticipated.

as i understand it, the standard account is still limited to 2 streams, so it doesn't make sense to share with 2 sub-accounts.

It’ll be interesting how quickly this move, as well as the rapidly fragmenting streaming ecosystem, stimulates piracy. Piracy became pretty fringe when streaming was cheap and you could get a significant range of content on Netflix. Now it’s relatively expensive and difficult to get access to a broad range of content piracy becomes attractive again.

With automation piracy has never been easier. After an hour of setup you can automate downloads if you favourite show or movie. If it’s expensive and/or inconvenient to access a wide range of content, we’re back to where we were when piracy was pretty rampant.

It’s going to be an interesting few years.

I had a similar discussion with a group of people I know, and they all indicated they're dusting off their Plex hubs and using torrents again. They still pay for streaming services, they just can't keep up with the fragmentation. Pretty understandable, I spend $100 on subscriptions each month and still can't watch everything I'd like.

The contrast between music and video is really stark, my Apple Music sub means I can listen to anything I want, but the $100 of video subs still leaves me with massive gaps. The TV and Movie companies really are their own worst enemies.

I'm not bothered about sharing issues as maybe I am unique in that I don't share my account with anyone.

Will be slightly interested whether it will affect me if a go overseas for a month.

I noticed last year I couldn't take my sky card on holiday and stick it in the Bach I was renting sky box but I don't remember there being comments about it. Error message said this card not registered to the box.

I expect the sharing thing will start to be closed for all of the other streaming services in time

Apple seems to be an outlier at present; the service offers "family" sharing (rather than "household" sharing) and the T&Cs don't mention households at all, only that all family members must be in the same country.

Of course, nothing's stopping Apple from changing the T&Cs at some point!

Very strong point of difference though, might even cause Apple to allow a service that Netflix has stopped

It has a six-person limit.

The way I see it, there's no need to pay $100 per month on streaming.  i.e. we watch content from multiple services, but not all concurrently.  So, we're usually subscribed to Netflix and Disney+, then we alternate between subscribing to Apple TV+ for a while, then Amazon Prime for a while, then HBO Max for a while, then Hulu for a while, etc, etc.  We watch the latest season of one or two series that we like on a particular service, then move off to another service to watch a different series and/or movies.

It's like having McDonalds, KFC, Taco Bell, etc all in your town.  You down have to buy dinner from all of them each night.  Just choose what you want, when you want. (not that we'd eat much at those particular establishments).

Aye that's fair. I do that with services offering shows I'd like to see but don't care immensely about. Unfortunately to keep up to date with stories I do care about means I have to keep a lot of things on the go at once. The alternative is to wait till the end, try dodge spoilers all the while, and then binge. Financially that makes sense, but unfortunately isn't compatible with my personality quirks :)

Using not getting what you want for the price you want as justification for switching to stealing is ummm....

Audi just raised the price of their new cars, but I had been eyeing one at the old price AND I only get 1 key instead of the key previously offered, but since it's more expensive now, I'll be back in a few minutes after I get my Balaclava and Camo gear.

...if 1% of legitimate account use gets flagged and needs to be resolved by a support ticket, then shrugs.

Worldwide 1% is still over 2 million accounts. That would be an insane number of support tickets for to be resolved.

Well, it's likely to be under 1% but they aren't all going to log at once, and most queries will be auto-answered.

This is a good example of corporate panic. They are likely to see a drop in subscriptions as annoying customers tends to see them walk out the door.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I'm not sure if it's new as part of this policy, but I see all plans have a 5 profile limit. Has it always been like this? What about households with 6 or more users? Obviously that's not most households, but it wouldn't be an insignificant number either.
