vexxxboy: you have to remember that the majority of people who watched the EPL , probably recorded it on Mysky to watch at there convenience, are they willing to fork out big money to get up in the early hours to watch it live , i doubt it very much , they will watch it on TVNZ like it used to be many years ago.

one would assume that as well as showing the games live this service will also have some kind of catch up to watch a game that you miss at a later time - and without any need to set it to record on your PVR.
With on demand, there is no need for a PVR, in theory.
NonprayingMantis:Jas777: Expression,
Yes there is but a lot of people only have a small data cap. Having to stream sports will probably put them in the next price point for a lot of internet companies which is around the $20 a month mark.
Also if other family members are using your connection it will affect the quality you get.
Sure you can have a smart TV but you have to have a grunt connection to see in top quality, a lot of people haven't.
entry level broadband plans are, for most people, $75 for around $30 GB
You can get unlimited data from Slingshot for $90, or unlimited data with unlimited national calling from Orcon for $99
This is not a huge amount extra to fork out, especially compared to the price of Sky basic + Sky sports +MySky + HD ticket which can easily set you back close to $100 per month
Not to mention the other amazing things you can do when you have the internet (like Pron, other media streaming, etc etc)

But those people would already likely have broadband. And as I previously mentioned, you get a lot more than just soccer for $100 per month with sky. Many soccer watchers will have wives and children, who will use sky for other things.
I think their target audience, will not want to be bothered watching it live steaming on a computer
, especially as the connection could be slow, and the picture compressed due to a poor connection.
They want to watch it at their convenience, and skip the adverts via a PVR device.
The other thing is many of their viewers will be in rural areas, where broadband coverage is patchy at best, they probably have to miss out. Would have been great if tivo had out bid them, could have been a new way to sell tivos in the NZ market.
joker97: we have said a lot about what it means to consumers but
what happens to sky? price drop? more deals?
Jas777: NonprayingMantis,
Yes you can but if the only reason you get the net is to stream sports and you like more than just football then having to pay $500 extra a year for football is a lot of money.
NonprayingMantis:
why on earth woudl TiVo have bid for it? TiVo content (Caspa) is still delivered over the internet so all the stuff you mentioned woud still apply.
Now if Sommet sports had won the bid that would be different...
Kopkiwi: Veitchy on sport FB page having good updates.
latest is that the quality will NOT be dodgy, looking at allowing people to link up on line through the TV and speculation Telecom may jump on board as a provider.

Benoire: They can only sell this to me IF they make it either as an application for Windows Media Centre, open source various api's or release a smart tv app. The whole purpose of the 10' UI was to make things easy to use, not go back to having to squint at a browser using a mouse from the couch.
