Yep, so the native Sony TV app and its video player are crippled.

For all those with Sony Android TV, best way to view the streams is via Kodi and the Spark sport add on.

Still have to have a subscription, still have to log in so nothing dodgy, just that you get to see streams as they are supposed to be. You can even choose the quality you'd like.

I didn't want to have to go down the kodi path because i just want to use the standard android interface.

But until Spark sorts out the native app I'll have to just put up with it. Picture quality is awesome now though so that is great.

Apsattv:

Yes nice, and looks like they also plugged the exploit that enabled free viewing of ALL spark's content since day 1..

uh oh can of worms just opened

What can of worms? the flock of customers who were freely using the service through an exploit coming in and finding an alternative option?

Gosh, they might even have to just get spark sport themselves ;)

Has anyone got experience of watching spark sport using the SmartVU device. I have 2018 LG TV so been badly let down. I get $100 towards getting something else and this is cheapest alternative.

I am better streaming just streaming it by airplayit from my iPhone X via my 1st generation Apple TV?

Any advice greatly appreciated

I was watching from Chromecast Ultra, Airplay form iPhone X and from iPad Air 1, all were identical visually. The phone bing small is a pain to pause  or +10 -10 . If you had an iPad thats easier. If you will be doing term into streaming, consider an ATV4, that works very well

Works fine on my smartVU, only extra thing I did was I popped the device open and left the cover off

It’s been a lot more stable since I did that

here is the latest AndroidTV apk shows as 1.2.1 August 28, 2019 on the google app store,  1.3.1 inside the app

https://www.dropbox.com/s/rb6falolkj7vbve/nz.co.sparksport.androidtv-1.2.1.apk?dl=0

EDIT: dont bother to install this version if you have a SHIELD, the quality seems to be stuck at about 360p it never scales up

to be sure it was the app i downgraded to 1.10 and the quality was back to normal

the 1.2.1 seems fine on the Sony TV the apk came from, so guess they have broken something for unsupported devices

Anyone with a smart vu x got the latest update?  I wonder if the Sony one now has a different approach?

Well done spark sport on returning to the higher frame rates, I will be cancelling what I currently use for the f1, and restarting my subscription with spark sport.

The football looking like it should do.  Delighted they've changed it, looks great now.

Yep, looking much better. Now if they could only broadcast the PL TV channel with the pre/post match and half time studio shows, I’d be very happy.

The motion is so sweet to my eyes now; much much improved!  They still need to sort the categories and folders out as its still a bit of a mess in the app but I can't fault the stream.  Seems to have the occasional judder on the F1 where it drops out breifly but do not know if that's internet or feed itself just done it right now on the footy.
