The thing with Netflix and any other streaming service is they're supposed to be more convenient than Piracy and I think they're forgetting this key fact about their business model.

And suddenly the amount of Jellyfin/Plex/Emby users jumps up!

Pies at the lunchbar are up another 50c. You know the prices are up because all the labels are new and not faded looking. The last ones never got to be faded looking before replacement. Things are getting cut back for everyone, and an entertainment service that is easily replaced with less legal but free options is one of the first to go.

I wonder if one reason is the weak NZ dollar. I am sure Spark will increase their price for the bundled service as they seem to increase the price regularly anyway. But the NZ service doesn’t seem to get some of  the good content that they get in the US. I share my parents account at my place  and don’t pay any extra and haven’t been blocked from this. But if spark discontinued it they would switch to a cheaper ISP. Spark have already phased out their free xtramail which used to be bundled for free so people are already getting less service.

Yep let's blame it all on Trump's tarrifs.

Netflix, its not even modern content, but the back catalog is thin on what should be a vast cornicopia.

Then there is the modern content that gives out plot with an eyedropper.
Its like we have enough for a 1 hour show, lets get Ai to spin it out to 8 shows.
If you have to >> 1x speed it to watch it something is wrong.

Anyways myself and partner are getting less and less hours a month out of it.
So yeh as price goes up, I'm almost missing the local DVD rental.

We currently pay $7 on our spark bill for premium. I certainly would have to think about that depending on what spark does with things.

But at those prices if I didn't have spark I would probably be canceling netflix and boarding the jolly roger kore often

First thought is the price difference between NetFlix and Sky TV is narrowing more and more.

It’s nice having the live WWE stuff (plus other events) but this is getting harder to justify

Interesting; I've not seen any emails about price increases; and checking my subscription, I'm still on the original price (standard $20.99/month), BUT the other two tiers show the new pricing.

I assume the increase is coming, presumably staged?

Also, I've got a 4K TV, but damned if I'm paying another $14/month to upscale - definitely NOT worth it!

At least with DVD rentals you could get out 5 newish movies for $5 out maybe $10 these days. Netflix movies are often old or not good.  But these providers lack competition because they often have exclusive content. So they can essentially keep ramping up prices to a level where people won’t pay it

My son (a university student) has recently started going to the municipal library, where you can officially borrow ‘DVD media’ free of charge.

His jellyfin server is up to date with the latest content. 😎

I love how every thread about price increases on digital content devolves almost immediately into 'if it's not cheaper than stealing, I am going to steal it'.

You were lucky, it could have been a 25% price increase (Tariff) instead of just 23.82%. 😁
