cdrnet: I thought that was an issue on the initial firmware version only and it had been addressed in later versions. Glad you are all sorted out now (c8

thanks for your suggestion

marlinz: Is anyone having trouble with Netflix on Amazon Fire TV  .

I have been getting the "We're having trouble playing this title right now. Please try again later or select a different title "  with 90 % of the things i try to watch , i went and watched on the WDTV Live and everything plays fine on that

both are hard wired to my Telecom VDSL

any ideas ?

I only ever have this message if I'm playing something and turn off the TV. When I turn it on the message is there - probably it loses HDMI sync.

Interesting your post about the clear cache fix...

yeah i am unsure what happened , it was very frustrating , but on the upside WDTV Live worked fine as a back up till i got it sorted

Ok well I am stumped. My father in Law has a US (OneSmart) Payment Method and a US Delivery Address, he is configured as best I can see, correctly, but he can't select apps, or install netflix.

You do know you can configure your Amazon account online and then when you Sync, it all just appears, right?

Yes, the problem was everything was correct, except his KINDLE was set to NZ. Changed to US with Amazon Support, everything seems better now.

A month or so in how are you early adopters finding the streaming picture quality compared to whatever you used previously or say SKY's HD channel quality as a yardstick? I'm interested in Netflix in particular.

Any idea or way to know what bitrates you are getting on the services you access through the Fire TV?

My only real reference point is Netflix on (my now retired) Chromecast for Breaking Bad, which when it wasn't suffering from endless rebuffering - which alas wasn't often - had very good quality pretty high bitrate 1080p/i streams pretty close to Sky's SOHO HD I'd say.  The reason I ask is that for whatever reason streaming Netflix to my Ipad Air was never as high quality/bitrate as the Chromecast, despite the higher native resolution of the ipad.

Finally, anyone else on Vodafone Cable (ex-Telstraclear, Wellington) with the Fire TV?  Just in case my Chromecast buffering issues were somehow related to their IP/routing setup..?

Recently moved to Vodafone cable (50/2), using a Fire TV and UnoTelly as my DNS provider. Haven't had any buffering issues at all so far and it starts fairly quickly.

I used to have buffering on BigPipe VDSL during the evening but not any more on the VF cable plan.

FYI - from recollection one roughly hour long Breaking Bad episode from Netflix via Chromecast would be 2.5-3GB. Measured just through T/clear's data usage tracker. Equates to approx 6 kiloBits/sec or 700 kiloBytes/sec.
