freitasm: I don't know which model they sent yet... Let's see this evening.
HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi
Gilco2: has anyone tried using a different remote control these. Either my remote has packed up or the FireTV is faulty as remote wont work. I can use it with standard usb keyboard fine but sort of defeats the purpose. I see I can order a new remote from Amazon

richms: Im already paying for prime anyway to get free shipping to the reshipper so the content is basically free to me, it works well and I am considering getting addidional units for the other TVs because it is still quite cheap for what it does,
Will wait and see what comes from google tho,
Still want to know why I cant have it, the chromecast, a PS3 and a PS4 on the TV and have HDMI CEC work on all of them. Get the usual unsupported crap answer from samsung...

freitasm: Assuming Google TV will be locked down as Google Chromecast... Just the ability to use a user-defined DNS out of the box makes the Amazon Fire TV a much more compelling experience for users.

Just need to setup a NAT rule on your router to redirect any DNS queries going to 8.8.8.8 to your DNS service. Agree not as easy, but takes care of Google ;)
Having said that I have an Amazon fire Tv en route
NZtechfreak: I have all that stuff set up in the router, no issues there.

You guys are funny. NZtechfreak said "If you were buying now, any reason you guys might select the Fire TV?" and I give a reason. Sure YOU have this setup on router. YOU know how to root a device. How many of the other estimated 30,000 people in New Zealand using Netflix would know how to do it?
Yes, you can use Chromecast to play your YouTube cat videos. If that's all the content you want. But I bet it's not.
My point is that side-by-side, Fire TV is more "consumer friendly" in terms of plug and play some content.
