Netflix is just perfect on the Amazon Fire TV. I use an RJ45 PowerPlug. People's expectations of wireless technology never ceases to amaze me. I guess if you mess around with the buffering, it might be OK, but there are just so many variables that can screw up your wireless signal.

No doubt wired is best but wireless has worked flawlessly for Netflix on my phone, tablet and Roku. Wireless isn't as flaky as it was a few years ago and if you run a decent router then I find it to be perfectly fine.......except with the Fire. Ah well, the Roku has a prettier interface and boots faster so I'll just stick with that.

I do like the Fire remote though, it's snappy with satisfying clicks.

I am not too worried about how fast it boots (granted I am not comparing because I can't) because once it's booted... There's no reason to shutdown really. It goes to sleep and the resume is instantaneous.

There isn't. If I had to shutdown it would be that - but then it would be everything else since we don't shutdown anything (well, HTPC goes to hibernation, TV goes to sleep and we only really turn everything off the wall if going away).

@ freitasm: have you tried house of cards on Netflix with your current tv? Understand Netflix will detect 4k capability and (attempt to) deliver a 16mbps 4k stream.

That's a fair comment. I agree that it is quite slow when compared to my P.C

Netflix on the firetv is delivered via chromium, its not an app per se. Its all controlled from netflix side as well, i read somewhere that they plan to have a proper firetv app out by the end of the year.

However there is nothing stopping you sideloading the official netflix for android app (not sure if you will lose superhd compatibility doing that though? would love to test it). The remote doesn't play that well with the official app though, so a mouse will be required.

JimmyH: I currently own WDTVs, but am looking for something a bit more capable to replace one of them - specifically something that can support freeview codecs, stream from my Hauppauge Broadway, and run XBMC. I have been reading this thread with interest, and came *very* close to ordering the Fire TV.

In the end I went with the Minix Neo X8-H, which cost a bit more ($NZ 175), which seems fairly similar but a tad more capable - with an 8-core GPU, essentially stock android with access to the Play Store, and an optimised version of XBMC installed. Also 4K capable, not that I care about that at the moment.

Winging its way to me now, so should have it in my hot little hands for testing early next week. Happy to post impressions if there's any interest?

Yeah do tell us how it works. I got my Fire TV two days ago and had SPMC (xbmc fork) side loaded in minutes, along with llama to give it a real menu icon.

So far it seems to run really smoothly, far better than my WD TV Live. I havn't played with SPMC enough to see whether it can play as many formats as the WD TV Live, doubt it will but it does what I want.

For those of you who have Kindles and Fire TVs, has anybody had any issues with changing your Country Settings on Amazon.com to United States? I have heard reports in the past of bad things happening to Kindle users who do this.

Initially, it was quite irritating.

The only way I could make it work was a set up a new account with just USA settings.

I use a different non-.co.nz email address. No worries with using the same credit card. An easier way might just be to set up a new paypal.com account.

Does anyone know if there is a way to show what resolution is being streamed at any one time? I think I'm getting 1080p through the Netflix app but would like to know for sure.
