BigMal:
BigMal:

I went a different route and hooked up the fire a number of different ways.  I went...

1. Wireless with iptable DNS rewrite on a DD-WRT router
2. Wired with iptable DNS rewrite on DD-WRT router
3. Wired with getflix DNS on the Fire TV using Telecom supplied Thomson modem.

None the above solutions gave me anywhere near the Netflix streaming performance of the Roku or the Chromecast.  The Fire TV would stream in SD for a good 5-10 minutes before, sometimes, getting up to HD (720p range).  It's frustrating because it seems everyone else on here has had an excellent experience with the Fire TV and I have a Roku and Chromecast which both stream Netflix in HD in under a minute.

I also tried side loading the official Netflix app for Android but I couldn't navigate using the fire remote.

Ah well, I'll hold onto it for the short term and see if any Netflix app updates come out that might make a difference.

Update:

My Netflix country is set to UK (because I prefer the UK shows, as do the kids).  Anyway I switched Netflix to USA and what do you know everything starts streaming beautifully and quickly in HD.

My Fire TV is linked to a US Amazon account so I might try creating a UK Amazon account, switching back to Netflix UK and seeing if that improves UK Netflix streaming.

AND I was about to change my Netflix from US to UK.

Thanks for the Heads-up (c8

I don't suppose any NBA heads have tried their league pass subscription on the Fire TV yet? Still unclear if the international subscription works

The BBCi player app on Fire TV is good for the NBA league pass international subscription?

We just use it to watch CBBies for the kids. Not a big fan of TVNZ from a child safety perspective.

Criminal Minds at 6:30 in the evening - What's your problem, there's a sign displayed for your kids to read before they watch - Yeah right!

Parental controls exist and work on all freeview approved boxes.

Hm ok. Don't think BBC iplayer helps with NBA league pass on Fire TV but thanks.

If you are using Netflix on Amazon Fire TV and seeing a white screen just go to your browser on a PC and accept the new Terms and Conditions, then restart the Amazon Fire TV. It should load Netflix normally after this.

This reply to the quoted post makes no sense.

And, when was Criminal Minds ever on at 6.30pm on TVNZ? The news is always on then (which is probably worse). Also, what has it got to do with the FireTV?

Please back on topic. This is about Amazon Fire TV, not TV responsibility.

Well maybe I'll try ask again since somehow my question spiralled into parental controls.
Does anyone have any experience watching NBA League Pass on Fire TV? I have a subscription but no way to test without buying one.

My apologies to one and all for getting up on my soap box. Too much wine and it was late.

My kids love BBCi Cbeebies. It's a very safe environment. I'm planning to get an Amazon Fire for all of my home TVs, but I am just a bit concerned that Slingshot may have started a rebellion in advertising their Global service. I'm hoping it will simply blow over.

To watch the NFL game pass I use an an XBMC plugin. I see there is an equivalent plugin for NBA so you could try that?

Apparently celebrating a boatload of new apps. Any idea what those are?
Anyone ordering one who wants to bring in a controller, happy to share the freight.
