Actually for Fiscal 2015 Sky's returns were up, that is Revenue, Profit, Assets and Equity.

Really? Interesting. What about customer numbers?

I don't know what those figures are but increased competition would suggest that there has been movement in the customer base.

Last I read was that they churned 700 customers, net, over the last financial year. The impact of streaming for NZ, is WAY lower than on GZ

The Content Providers / Regional Distributor setup has been in place for decades everyone is scraping a little cream off the top its not in their interests to have this stop by providing a Global Catalogue so for the foreseeable future I see this artificial 'whack a mole' setup continuing that in the end just perpetuates pirating.

Its really sad and is NOT good for the general consumer; if I cast my mind ahead in time, the utopian setup in my mind would be a Global Catalogue where all content is made available and administered by the Content Providers (as they make the Content they need to be here) with the consumer choosing what they wish to watch from this Catalogue the platform will be irrelevant.

How this would be priced would be the interesting question I guess, but we would not have this noise over geo blocking its so LAST CENTURY.

Say the pricing doubled for everyone globally to support the global rights issue. Who cares, it's 2 X dirt cheap

Ho hum. I think the BBC made similar noises a while ago and nothing has happened.

As others have said I think Netflix has be to seen to be doing something.

Same here. The day that I can't get my SciFi fix from the US Netflix as these programs are not available here most likely due to Sky's The Zone channel I'll be canceling my Netflix sub and go back to downloading..

Yes you can. Just keep doing what you are doing. If by chance anything does actually change you will hear it here pretty quickly.

Ok thanks Giggs, I just assumed they would turn off account access to multiple countries etc.

Perhaps its a statement just to make out they are doing something about it.

All these mentions of global catalogue and may think its not in best interest. But they want to...

I cant get to the actual blog post to read it from here, but pay for someone to and paraphrase. As the chunks taken out are rather clear.

Seems they fired up another 130 countries this week.

"If all of our content were globally available, there wouldn't be a reason for members to use proxies or unblockers," David Fullagar, Netflix's vice president of content delivery architecture, wrote in a blog.

"Ultimately, the aim is to provide a service around the world that is more similar than not.

And yes, of course its made hard by the owners..

"The strategy is simple - they have a responsibility to content owners to only show that content in the geographies for which they have a licence. Enforcing those restrictions is a Netflix responsibility,"

As for a timeframe, that mentions 'within a few weeks'

No one knows what they are planning to do (if anything) its simply a case of wait and see. Even if they try to do something no doubt there will be a lot of people looking for a workaround.

The easist non technical way to reduce unauthorised access to US content is to use the Credit Card Address Verification service.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Address_Verification_System

Since the main issue appears to be unauthorised access to US Netflix if they required that if you want access to the US Netflix you must be be paying with a US address CC which is verifiablle.

That won't stop all since there are ways around this but would stop most. Of course it means that if you have a NZ account say and happened to be in the US, you would not be able to access US contetnt but I suspect Netflix would not care.

Just use the prepaid cards/vouchers e.g Hulu. I buy them off ebay

So if I open a Netflix account with my UK credit card I'll be able to watch UK content regardless of where I live? Sounds like a great result to me

i actually use filmefy to find my movies and they are all OVER the shop, the US doesnt have as much interesting content vs whats spread out around the world imo. i think the NZ content is lacking numbers, but quality wise its nearly as good as US imo.
