I was not the OP but this thread is quite specific and was not intended to be about the pros and cons of smart v dumb TVs.

Quick answer before it goes too far off topic. I want the best possible TV picture so we have late model OLEDs. This necessitates smart TVs. I don’t want to then fork out for an ATV (which also means another remote on the coffee table) to get SS RWC after SS promised apps for late model LG TVs - and I have given them my money based on that promise.

Didn’t mean to cause any upset, and I’m sorry if I have.

Really hope you get your app in time for the World Cup.

And then you have misleading articles like this put up today

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sponsored-stories/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503708&objectid=12257360

It lists LG 2019 tvs as all having the spark sport app for watching the RWC

It’s completely false - show me one LG tv running the spark sport app

It’s complete BS - they don’t know what they’re doing - let alone their support people knowing anything. Hopeless.

To be honest, even if they get an app working, it's pretty average looking streaming right now.

I see that LG have disappeared from on the SS "what device" FAQ page this morning. Is this  good  news?

It's good in that they are no longer lying about support.

It's bad in that it possibly means LG will not get spark sport.

The issue is obviously with LG and not spark, panasonic, sony and samsung all already have the spark app. it's a case of LG dragging it's heels when it comes to app support

I believe it is up to Spark Sport to write the app for LG Tvs. Not LG.

I noticed in the most recent stuff in the media (mainly about HDMI cables) any mention of LG TVs has disappeared.
Next there will be an ad "WebOS App developer urgently required. Expertise in media streaming preferred."
Glad all my eggs aren't in the LG basket.

I’d really like a sky sport app for the lg ( off topic I know but I was staying in a place with a Samsung the other day and it had sky sport built in and it was really nice. I have an ATV4 so no real issue, but....

If it helps I popped off an email to LG NZ support last week asking when my LG C9 would get spark sport app.

They still haven't replied..

If an LG involvement is required it probably comes out of Australia. They wouldn't care unless all their codes were thrashing NZ teams 😊

THat was Friday. This morning (Monday 26 August) I found the SS app on my LG tv. After a heated discussion/chat with SS Help on Friday, wherein they would not admit to anything except that it was Spark doing the development, and denied that SS had said they would have the app available in time!!!

So - they made it, but not without some agitation on the part of LG owners.
