I am asking this here because there is a lot of unrelated content (like quality and fps etc) on the other Spark Sport forums.

I just want to know when, and have not had satisfactory answers from LG, or from Spark Sport, who say "we do not have an ETA on that at the moment. But we're working very hard to fix this issue." and go on to offer an alternative way to see RWC 2019.

I received the following a few days ago (after asking the question "Any date on the LG webos app being released?"):

"Spark Sport Support" <help@sparksport.co.nz>

Hey ***,

Thanks for getting in touch.

We are working and testing the app's out and over the coming weeks we will be releasing it. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused to you.. :(

If you want to ask about the same question or give more information, it’ll make it heaps faster for us to help you out if you could reply back to this email.

Regards,

Me too. A couple of days ago I asked SS about the LG TV app. They replied

“Thanks for getting in touch.

We are working very hard to bring Spark Sport app on latest LG TVs.

Spark Sport is currently available on a range of different computers, tablets, smart TVs and phones. We also support Chromecasts. For a full list of supported devices check here: https://help.sparksport.co.nz/what-devices-can-i-watch-spark-sport-on

Cheers, “

I replied to that, saying:

“Thanks for the reply but it doesn’t tell me much does it - still very vague.

There’s no point telling me about all the other devices on which SS is available - it’s LG TV that I need it on.

I’m now beginning to regret supporting SS with my Super Early Bird subscription.

Cheers”

From what I heard 2019 LG tv's should be available from sometime next week. They still working on 2018 and 2017 model tv's.

My experience with LG so far is Hardware Great, Software not so much.

Glad I have Chromecast and Apple TV as backup.

I Have an LG C7 OLED and find their streaming apps preferable to use ie Netflix,Amazon Prime,Youtube etc. Although whats available is a little smaller than other OS such as Android TV etc. But Full 4K/HDR(including Dolby Vision)Support is great and its very Zippy to use under Web OS.

Surely this discussion is about the SS app for LG TVs - not LG software. Two different things.

It's a fair comment. There's a few missing apps compared to Samsung. Thinking of getting an Apple TV too and the later spark delays it the more I'll be tempted

Appreciate that cost is an issue for some, but wondering why anyone would prefer to rely on apps on the TV as opposed to using an external device - Apple TV in particular.

Apps usually appear faster on the Apple TV and seem to be updated more often. No surprise given the fragmentation in the TV market and the differing specs that go with that. The other advantage is that when you buy a TV you only need to consider picture quality (and possibly sound, depending on your setup). No compromises need to be made based on operating system, app availability etc.

No criticism of the OP or anyone else implied - just wondering if there is an advantage to using the onboard TV apps that I'm missing?

Personally I feel convenience & quality.

I have a chromecast 4k, android freeview satbox & HTPC at 4k60 however will always use the built in LG TV apps for Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video & even the built in media player (for playing videos over the home network stored on the PC) in every instance as a) same TV remote & b) (and yes this could be entirely my brain believing it!) i feel the upscaling in the LG TV native apps is superior to the external devices.

Each to their own though.

Yesterday I received a reply from SS Support regarding my query to them as to when the LG TV app will be available. This is what they said:

We apologize for the inconvenience with getting the Spark Sport app installed on your LG TV.

Please note that Spark Sport app is available on LG Smart TVs (2017+ models).

The important thing is to check that your TV model is 2017+ regardless of when it was purchased.
If you think your device is most definitely 2017+ if you can please provide us with the model number and I can check on this issue for you.”

I thought, well maybe they’ve put it up on the LG Content Store (where LG TV apps live) without announcing it - so I checked and of course it’s not there.

Their comment that the app “is available” implies that it’s available now which is clearly BS. I’ve gone back with my 2018 and 2019 LG model numbers to see what they say next.

I really wonder if they know what they’re doing.

So are they saying 2017 and newer models will get it? To me, putting 2017+ means 2018-19 models.
