Just tried again after reading some success stories... It works!

No reboot needed, just starting streaming as it did last week.

Thank you so much to everyone involved in getting this fixed, DNS guys are fantastic for figuring the root problem and Telecom NZ have been wonderful in following up. Thanks everyone.

We're seeing confirmation that this issue is resolved for many of you via our support desk, which aligns with the recent posts here.

It doesn't appear to be 100% resolved for everyone 100% of the time, but hopefully all the necessary changes to upstream proxies will be pushed out soon, for all ISPs.

Special kudos to the teams at both UnoTelly and Unblock-Us. I know we're all competitors, but at the end of the day we are all working towards a common goal :-)

Thanks also to a number of you who sent us regular updates, did web meetings, provided screen captures, packet traces, and ran various tests for us.

If anyone has any ongoing issues, please contact our support desk. We'll also be monitoring this thread for further updates.

So it looks like those of you on Telecom NZ are good.

Could any of you confirm for me?

Many thanks!

Just tried here, and using your 7 day trial I was able to get it working here with no issues.

I would suggest to people to resist (at this stage) the urge to get excessively pushy on this issue with VF, especially on their Facebook or Community Forums. As others have pointed out, the reality is that this issue really extends beyond Netflix and SHOULD be fixed. However, the more it becomes plausibly linked as some kind of "This is just the Netflixers complaining" issue (in the heads of certain people) and potentially gets to the antennae of the risk management and other types who wish to get in the way of you Netflixing, the more likely that this takes longer to fix, if at all.

Hi all, just one thing about the point raised above.  I would like to know if anyone during the Netflix outage (especially Vodafone customers) has also noticed problems with the Xbox Live, PlayStation Network or iTunes App stores.   I have had issues with them in the past that looked to be related to transparent caching.    They are all legitimate services and if Vodafone's transparent cache is causing greater impact there is scope under the Consumer Guarantees Act to ask them to fix or to discount their bill.

I had big issues with downloading a PS4 game in the weekend. Horribly slow & kept dropping out. Speed tests to Sydney were 40mbps so that shouldn't be an issue.

Our network isnt impacting those services. No other reports have come past me nor have i had a single issue with XBL and Itunes. Do note if you are using a different DNS who knows what CDN or location you might be pulling data from.
Non standard setups are not our problem if you have issues.

Further to post: I found when using Unblock-US i got my Origin downloads from Singapore and Itunes from USA.

This is not related.

The Netflix issue is as a result of a change made by Netflix of their URL strings, which impacted the transparent proxies of the ISP's. This issue will touch nothing but Netflix services from US & Canada.

Vodafone, Telecom, Slingshot, etc....use transparent proxies - this is why users at smaller ISP's the likes of Snap! were unaffected, as they do not have this setup.

With all due respect Tim, if we accept that you do in fact have a misconfigured transparent cache then logically you could also be having an effect on those services.  You wouldn't know unless you get issues reported.   The truth of the matter is when network speed isn't an issue people tend to become confused by strange performance  on other services.  They assume it's an issue with that service and not a ISP issue.

I've had strange behaviour on all those service on a Vodafone cable modem with standard Vodafone settings.  These problems were directly equivalent to the Netflix issue.  Menus loading fine, but even the smallest app download failing.

I logged one of the calls with UnoTelly that kicked off this investigation because I tested every possible part of the problem (replacing my HG659 with an Asus to rule it out) that I possibly could.  The thing that I had observed was that a VPN to the US effectively bypassing Vodafone gave me a much more reliable network connection where everything works.

I've been an Internet customer since it was Clear.  But frankly if you can't or won't provide Internet that just works then you don't deserve brand loyalty.

You need to reread what Unblock-us reported.  Netflix made a change that graphically illustrated existing problems with the NZ ISP transparent caches.  there's plenty of historical complaints in this forum about transparent cache behaviour.

Just a thought about this newly discovered transparent proxy misconfiguration on the vodafone network. Would this affect youtube is I have been on the top plans from Vodafone and telstra before that and I have just about always had issues streaming youtube. I can download at 100mBit without issue but streaming youtube has always had issues on all devices I use.
I might be completely off base as I am not 100% fluent with all the behind the scenes network stuff used by ISP's etc
