the why would the CEO come out with this statement.

"Coliseum chief executive Tim Martin said EPL matches would be streamed online at a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels at just under 30 frames a second and at 3000 kilobits per second, while the audio was stereo. In his view, the video should look great, even on a 55-inch television."

that doesnt sound like there will be a 4.5Mb/s option

The other being Gareth Bale probably off to Madrid.

Why would you want one of the world's finest players to leave EPL - unless you're an Arsenal fan perhaps.

No, I'm aware of that, but I'm more hoping that since there has been quite a bit of discussion (here at least) around the quality of the 3 Mbps stream, that they may consider adding a higher-tier 4.5Mbps stream. Unlikely though, I suspect. Not sure I understand why they would have put an apparently low-quality sampler up either. Guess I'll see what difference there is tomorrow.

No, I'm aware of that, but I'm more hoping that since there has been quite a bit of discussion (here at least) around the quality of the 3 Mbps stream, that they may consider adding a higher-tier 4.5Mbps stream. +1 on the demo video, why would you use an inferior stream to try to lure customers, smacks of BS to me.

Like I said, comment on the stuff story too as that's more mainstream and could help influence them to actually listen:

You maybe right but if the feedback here has meant that they are taking notice and will make it better then it's all good. I imagine this forum (wich they've been made aware of) would have set off a panic. They want (no need) this to work. The official launch is tomorrow but the weekend's soft launch to no fanfare was probabaly a tactic to monitor early feedback. Here's hoping anyway.

Maybe there's a caching issue somewhere, but I can't tell the difference. It still looks like my 4-year-old encoded it on his Meep to me.

I bet Colissieum are happy they haven't got the same problem as in Thailand were the new rights holders can get people hooked up until until 2-3 months after the season starts.

The quality appears to be the same (poor), although they have replaced the video with one featuring significantly less actual football action and quick motion, presumably to hide the poor video quality.

So watched it on my work connection so different connection route. Looked 'ok' in its little window but when expanded to full screen was terrible, when paused you couldn't make out anything. Hopefully they haven't updated the stream yet... They should really tell us the quality of the stream on the page so people know... Ideally it should be the 3mpbs stream as you want to showcase what you can do.

As far as I can tell it's a ~1.6Mbps stream.

They've put in a new sample, from the asia trophy Man City v Sunderland. But when trying to show off a football streaming service,it's probably a good idea to show some actual football not just the first 8 minutes of coverage with stadium panning and the teams walking out.
