Unotelly have something they call "Dynamo settings". There you can choose which region you want for Netflix. All of it is done through their website.

The choices for regions on Netflix are: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Brazil, Mexico, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Argentina, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium and Panama.

You can also block subtitles. And you can set a lot of other regions for other channels. All in all you can really customise Unotelly a lot.

We actually find Lightbox has a pretty good line up of content. We have subscriptions for Netflix, Hulu & Lightbox, and find our viewing is probably split evenly between all three services.

i should say, lightbox doesnt have movies etc. i should have added in comparison to quickflix. im sure if you are a USA TV fan its brilliant.

i dont see how lightbox is comparable to netflix, amazon prime or quickflix even given lack of movies.

To get back on subject a little. I think its a pretty good bet that all of Netflix own productions will be available in NZ.

For 2015 that includes quite the list of series and movies:

I am counting 18 new series, 4 new seasons of series like House of Cards and Orange is the new black etc. And 6 mini-series/specials/movies. And they always release whole series all at once, so be prepared for a lot of binge watching.

Depending on how the rights were sold to TV2 (and Lightbox, for that matter), it's not infeasible that OITNB (and other Netflix content) isn't available on Netflix when it launches here.

In fact, consider the launch announcement :-

At launch, the premium and unique Netflix offering will include such original series as Marco Polo, BoJack Horseman and, among many kids titles, DreamWorks Animation’s All Hail King Julien.

If they were to be available at launch, why wouldn't you also mention Orange is the New Black, and House of Cards.

Hmm, we have a UK Netflix subscription, and when I load up Netflix on my laptop if we're in another European country we will still get the UK content. No VPN/Proxy/DNS tricks required.
This leads me to believe that if you currently have a US Netflix subscription you should be able to use it in NZ without any geo circumvention

Hmm, interesting. The Geo-unblockers allows you to quickly switch between a lot of different versions (regions) of Netflix. I wonder what differentiates that switching from moving between countries physically.

Yes BBC iPlayer is great I love it. But its geoblocked.

Off course BBC iPlayer is geblocked, it is paid for by the UK taxpayers. Why would they let other people who have contributed nothing watch it for FREE?

Hey, I would pay for access to BBC iPlayer in an instance. But thats not about to happen. You know why? Its called regional licensing... The content licensing model is soooo out of date, that the companies that are breaking out of that model (Amazon and Netflix to name a couple) have to produce their own content to be able to easily distribute it worldwide.

More on some of the new series here

Over 1/2 of their own stuff seems to be animation and/or SCI-FI. That caters to a very specific audience. If that plus old movies and some old TV series is all you get in NZ then I can see it not working that well in NZ.

I think a big problem they might have is all the people who think NETFLIX is the greatest thing since sliced bread going on what they are told on social media etc and seeing it is not.

Yeah that is true, when it is their 'OWN' content then they can do what they like with it. When it is someone else's content the original producer of that content can do what they like with it even it is a model you don't like.

If they want to sell it to a 3rd party instead of directly to individuals then that is OK. And no doubt they realise that they would get more for it selling it to 3rd parties as if they tried selling it to individuals the people who say they would pay for it in a lot of cases wouldn't.
