LOL I give them $12.99 per month! Thinking about dropping it though and heading back to Netflix and Unblockus. Even the kids (2,4 and 6) are complaining how bad Quickflix content is.

Just found I have been giving them money for the last few months after my sub reactivated. Not happy about that at all.

And still no app on the samsung TV.

It updates all the time, that is one of the reasons I hate the smart tv stuff and just use a laptop on it to watch downloaded stuff now.

Nope. The app is still in the works for the 2010 and 2011 Samsung Smart TVs, as per my previous post.

It's a shame to see them in this situation, but it's pure and simple cause and effect.
Cause: No good selection of content. Plus, pay per play titles are too expensive.
Effect: People are not willing to stump up a monthly sub to something they won't get the use out of.

$6.99 Pay per play is just too expensive in my book. I'd much rather get the full Blu-ray experience from the local video shop. In saying that, if they met half way between the video store new release coupon price ($3), and the regular video store new release coupon price ($5), which would make it $4, I would definitely consider hiring a pay per play via Quickflix. That is, of course, if the content is released at the same time as the local video store.

This thread interested me enough to take another look. Still not impressed by the the content range. What they have for regular streaming seems really dated, and their pay-for-play offering seems to be both limited and expensive.

Personally, I think either Sky movies or my local video shop offer better value propositions, and don't chew up my bandwidth. I walk past the video shop on my way home (although it's been 5-6 months since I rented everything) and its cheaper to get a blu-ray on Tuesdays & Wednesdays than it is to use Quickflix, with a better range and quality. Mostly, I just record stuff that looks interesting on Sky movies & SoHo, and always have 20-30 unwatched films/shows accumulated on the recorder when I want to watch something.

I like the concept, and think that it would be great to have serious competition for Sky, buy Quickflix isn't in good enough shape to be that competition IMHO. When they get a range, release window and pricing package comparable with Netflix - hopefully coupled with unmetered access deals with ISPs - then I will dump likely Sky and be in like the proverbial robbers dog. Until then...... Meh!

Almost everything on Quickflix is older UK and American B material. The average person wouldn't find enough on there to justify more than two or three months' subscription. The service doesn't bring enough added value over the alternatives of buying or hiring DVDs. I think they should've found unique niches such as subtitled content which could've been negotiated cheaply. 540mb/h is too low too.

I have been paying for Quickflix since it's inception but have only watched a couple of movies over the entire time. I was hoping the content would pick up and there would be something worth watching but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case.

If i could cancel my subscription online I would do so now.

And that about sums it up. Sky maintains it's hold on content and people are faced with what they see as a bad deal with Sky or something that has varying degrees of propriety or legality.

Personally, I think QuickFlix should focused on volume rather than quality. Try to get as many old TV series as they could lay their hands on from the 80's and back. This would leverage the fact that many people can watch different things are the same time as opposed to Sky where everybody has to watch what is being broadcast at any given time.

Probably they only thing which will change this is some kind of legislation which breaks the Sky lock on rights, yeah that's not likely.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

This sucks. I've cancelled my subscription because the TV content for kids shows is just so poor. I've had a quick look at the AU site and the content choice is enormous (edit: no its not I was looking at the Post section not the Play section, which is equally bad as NZ). There just doesn't seem to be any new stuff coming to kids NZ TV.

By the way when I rang to cancel they offered me a 50% discount on one month or 3 months for 25% I think. Then you go back to the normal rate ($12.99 for us on 12 month).

I said that's a great price but the lack of content is the reason for me cancelling. I'm going to stick with buying content in the US iTunes store for now.

aside from HBO back catalogue stuff, the streaming content is identical accross NZ and OZ.

I thought the kids selection was pretty good for toddlers and babies, but not so good for tweens. (my 3 year odl is obsessed with Angelina Ballerina at the moment)

it seems odd you are cancelling QF because of the kids selection, but moving to iTunes where there is precisely zero kids TV at all (unless you are using US iTunes, in which case just get Netflix), and where moviest typically cost $20+ each to buy - a lot more than a month of watching as much as you like on quickflix, or $8 to rent ($7 on QF) which only lasts for 2 days.

Also the US iTunes content is phenomenal and you can take it with you on your portable device. Having to use a VPN when travelling is not the best solution.

Seems to me a bit of a double standard really...iTunes doesn't have to geo block but Netflix does.

Yeah over and over for a certain amount of time, not months and months with no new content at all from Quickflix.
