Id love to be able to subscribe to iPlayer, 90% of TV we like is UK.

Any news on NetFlex lineup and launch yet?

Going to give the lightbox a trial as the quickflix you cant cancel online and is only 14 days. I wish Sony had a ligbtbox app so I dont have to connect the lappy.

If you like UK TV then getting iPlayer working is totally sensible. But you don't need to 'subscribe' to iPlayer - the only requirements are: 1. a VPN or a DNS service (eg Getflix, Unotelly...), and 2. a device to play it on.

iPlayer works fine just on a computer, but the app can also be downloaded onto a mobile device or an Amazon Fire TV.

iPad (and I assume iPhone) app requires a UK iTunes account to download; the app allows Airplay so can be sent to the TV via an Apple TV.

Amazon Fire TV app requires changing your location in your Amazon account, enabling the app to be downloaded from the Amazon UK store.

I think I just searched for the iPlayer APK for standard Android devices on the web and downloaded it.

so it really all comes down to region restrictions.

im liking lightbox, but what format is it in, a lot of content looks grainy on a 1080p screen.

what are you watching and how are you watching it? (i.e. through web browser, PS4, smasung TV?)

I'm using PS4 and HD content looks great.

Obviously some older stuff wasn't produced in HD, so will naturally not look as good no matter what you do.

I'm using PS4 and HD content looks great.

We use both PS3 & PS4, and it looks great for us too (on 50" Panasonic 1080p plasma). Definitely comparable in quality to what we get with Netflix.

assuming your laptop is good enough to run it, there shouldn't be a problem. Having said that, there are always going to be potential issues when using a laptop e.g. other programs running in the background. Check your taskmanager to see how much load it's placing on your ram and processor.

I don't think there is any way to change the settings, it will automatically select the best stream your internet connection can handle - up to about 7Mbps I believe

brand new top i7 16GB ram, running nothing else. gold hdmi cable.

i think its just not HD broadcast if there is no other way to change it, because 1080p on the lappy is sharp as it is when broadcast to the TV.

We cast iplayer with Chromecast and it works great, you can even cast the live channels from chromecast. Pity ITV 5OD and 4 on demand dont support chromecast.

We cast iplayer with Chromecast and it works great, you can even cast the live channels from chromecast. Pity ITV 5OD and 4 on demand dont support chromecast.

I don't think chromecast support is too far away for 4 on Demand as they added Airplay support to their ipad/iphone app just before Christmas. Like the BBC iplayer you can also download for playback at a later stage. The UK has been leading the way for internet access for years and I have to admit we have not watched NZ TV for eighteen month or more. Even Netflix is rarely used in our household now. As for Sky? Gave them the toss 18 months ago and have saved over $1,800 in the process to date

Well as much as we enjoy lightbox, its really limited in content. Sure has some well known TV shows, but no movies and a very limited amount of documentaries.

Do they plan on adding to it? I can see us going through the few shows we actually enjoy within a month.

But do enjoy the service, Im just hoping they pick up the game content wise.

Im finding the M-Go service on Roku 3 (using Unotelly) is pretty good, the movies are reasonably priced (and in HD) and often they are available before United Video have it. ts certainly not an all you can eat movie service but beats renting them from the shop.

Hulu Plus at $8 per month provides a fair bit of TV show, documentary type content.

The only things I year for are

- Pawn Stars
- True blood & Game of Throne (dam you HBO)

Short of getting a premium US cable subscription, im not sure we have an ideal and cost effective option in NZ to get all the shows and movies we want in one handy service.

Get a Roku 3, download Plex media server, and you can add iPlayer as a channel, providing you have UnoTelly/Unblock Us etc...
