expression: Whilst I will admit Sky holds its motion better, PLP allows more detail into each frame, meaning you can see more detail easily e.g. players names, crowd faces. This is particularly noticeable when they present the graphic of the line ups.

Yes, to be fair, still images look better on PLPs stream, but anything with much motion looks better on Sky SD. And for a sport like this with quite a bit of motion, especially during the more tense moments, I'd  prefer to see relatively good quality motion, rather than relatively clear still shots of the crowd ;)

@expression,

I believe it is higer, will have to record an SD stream and inspect its data. I know the 1080i streams are 30fps though.

As would I. :)

I still maintain that something is wrong with their encoding process for so much detail to be lost in motion. It's particularly evident when you see things all blurry before they correct themselves in the forthcoming frames (eg the grass around 7:11 in the preview clip).

all i can say is that the majority of people who dont have the HD ticket and watch sport in SD have never watched HD sport because once you have watched it for a while you can never go back .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Cheers.

I was always under the impression that the SD channel was broadcast at 25fps for PAL purposes but I may be wrong, PAL is so old these days Sky might have just dropped it.

I agree. Certainly PLP is a step down for HD ticket users.

Like I said in my earlier post, if you think the video quality isn't good enough give them a call and tell them.

I was told that I was only the 2nd person to raise an issue over it and they've had thousands subscribe already. They need to add the 4500 Kbps streaming option as available on NFL and NHL streaming to be able to keep up with the fast moving action.

Call them on 0800 PL PASS or 0800 757 277
Email them at plpsupport@neulion.com

Great thanks everyone for there helpful replies - i think we might go for the standard premier league pass package purely so i have the ability to watch the games live.... Is there anywhere on the internet I can watch the premier league preview/premier league world/premier league review shows for free? If so there would be no point going for the premium package???? unless it offers something more?

Absolutely. Had never watched sport in HD until the Olympics last year. I had recently moved away from flatting to renting on my own so took out my own Sky subscription and wasn't initially going to get the HD ticket, but when I heard there were some extra Olympics channels if you had it, I phone straight up to get it and could never go back now.

Thanks - are the premier league review/preview/world shows exclusive to NZ or are they shown all round the world? I'm sure there must be a website that has them available to watch for free...

I have Sky sports but no HD ticket.  I don't see a point of paying extra for HD (and mySky) since I would rather spend the money on DVDs if the match is a classic (i.e. season review, champions league final), at least I get to keep them and can be confident with the quality (no Ads nor "technical issues interrupting the game").
