Really? They emailed me yesterday stating that there would be no smart TV apps at all.

I have been in contact with PLP and ask them to "Make me a believer in the quality & convenience of your proposed product…."

Nothing I have seen or read, either here or in PLP's responses answers the above concern. How can I make a potential $240 decision based upon 3 varying quality 10 minute video clips…?

My Sunday morning ritual will now be time-shifted to Sunday Afternoon I guess.....

djrm: I must say that I had a go using my laptop yesterday and thought that the quality of the image was actually okay. This was through a wifi connection from a Telecom Technicolour wireless router with an average connection speed of 12Mbps.

Yes it's not in HD but it is certainly watchable and is our only choice for live EPL. I am going to register as I cannot watch delayed coverage; it's just not the same.

Yes, stretch it to a 50 inch LCD, then let me know how you get on. It will be like the Lego man series.

Whats the bet the guy calling the shots at premier league pass is an old guy with iffy eyesight with a budget sky box hooked up to a rubbish cheap plasma with composite cables, so anything looks fine to him?

Probably quite slim. PLP have been setup to make money for the investors. It's all about maximising profit where they can (imho).

completely off the current convo happening here, but i still LOL when Sky says, we have exclusive rights to all the A League games and we will be showing them! (when someone asks about the EPL coverage). In what world is the A League comparable to EPL. I am all for national pride (go Phoenix), but one simply does not compare EPL to A League and call it a fair trade!

anyways, back on this convo. I was actually going to get the PLP package ($150). But since sky will be showing delayed coverage, and sommet sports has Chelsea TV. I am just hoping that the 4th team in sky is Man Utd! that is all i want. If that is what happens, then i reckon i dont really need to get the PLP package.

Absolutely but it's the only option and they have said that they will be working on SMART tv apps now that many people have aksed for them.

Are you Tim Martin in disguise (Tim Martin effectively said the same thing about sucking it up as PLP are the only option)? It may be the only legal option for live coverage, but I can assure you it is not the only option and a number of the "other" options offer higher quality streams than the PLP cowboys.

As an aside, I was watching the live stream of the Dolphins v Cowboys NFL pre-season Hall of Fame game today and even though the stream is increased at 4500k, the quality was on another planet from the PLP streams - PLP must be the tightest operators in the world if they're not prepared to fork out for a decent quality stream - Kama bites you in the backside sometimes and that's what SKY's announcement last week did.

3000kps looks pretty darn good on laptop and android tablet.
2am I want to be in bed on my laptop anyways..
Better than the 500kps *free* streams i been using.
This service suits me perfectly.
NZ doesn't have the infrastructure for true HD streaming or the data caps.
And it's not going to for a while, that's not Coliseum fault.

The paid service is marginally higher quality than a free illegal stream? Lofty standards indeed. Guess i'll stop complaining since I apparently don't have the bandwidth or the data cap to use a higher quality service like the NFL game pass i'm watching right now.

Then they should have never bid on the rights. We had glorious HD and 5.1 sound with SKY.

Now we have terrible video and stereo sound and that IS Coliseums fault!

Yes it does, on both points.

VDSL + UFB is available to well over half the country if they choose to get it, and 10Mbps is available to 80% already, no sign up required. you only need about 5Mbps to stream HD.

as for datacaps, take your pick from any one of the half dozen or so ISPs that offer unlimited data plans, or, of the ones who don't, you have datacaps of 500GB-1TB to choose from, which should allow to stream an absolute load of HD movies.

I have VDSL with a 150GB cap, I stream Netflix LOADS, as well as use iTunes for newer stuff, and youtube for other stuff, and HD on all three of those services is not a problem for me. Not a problem at all

Yes it does, I can get a terabyte and 20+ megabit downstream for a good price.

Just because there are some stupid ISPs that only offer low caps, and have no VDSL or fiber options and have the audacity to call such pathetic offerings "Super" doesnt mean that it's not available. When the largest ISP offers VDSL and a 500 gig plan at a good price then the infrastructure is there and waiting. To only offer a low quality stream of a premium product is just insane.

Yep gotta agree there.

I have the Telecom 500GB plan and VDSL2. Have trialled the Spurs game with the Man City v Sunderland in PnP and it works fine. Yes quality can be better but as I keep saying at the moment it's adequate. This deal runs for 3 years and it seems to be Colosseum are listening.

For me watching any game not live is not an option so the timing means more to me that the quality. Yes I regularly stay up through the night on Saturdays/Sunday morning. I would prefer both naturally and I have told PLP that I would be willing to pay more if they were able to improve the feed - a abit like the Sky HD ticket.

I watched the Super 14 final the other night in glorious SD delayed on Prime (cancelled my Sky Sports and HD ticket a while back); and to me the feed was on a par with what PLP is pushing out. So for those 400k Sky Sports subscribers without the HD ticket I say this. Switch to PLP to watch your football and you won't notice any difference.

Sorry, but I completely disagree with your comments here. Anyone who subscribes to sky sports without the hd ticket on a 40" + TV will notice a massive decrease in quality when comparing the video stream offered by PLP.
