I feel like someone has taken my favourite (old slightly ratty, etc ) jumper and give me a nice new one that doesn't quite fit and isn't quite the right colour ... and I don't really know how or who to moan to about it

So I'm probably doing the male walk away in a huff action

I loved having HD coverage and the choice (usually) to watch my team live or delayed If PLP can offer at least reasonable quality coverage I mite reconsider.

The debate over whether watching a game live or delayed is as fascinating as Schrödinger’s Cat thought experiment….

When watching a delayed TV game you do not know if the result will be a positive one, (your team wins), or a negative one, (your team does not win), but the only way to find out is to either ‘open the box’ by fast forwarding or looking the result up on the internet, or watching the game to its conclusion. Therefore until you finish watching the game, or ‘open the box’, the result of a delayed TV game is simultaneously positive and negative, and does not become a reality until it is resolved by your direct observation. This is indisputably logical….

Alternatively, if you watch a live game on TV thinking that your support in some small way affects the result, you are exhibiting a belief in ‘remote influencing’ or telekinesis ….! You know that makes you a nut job, right…?

Some of you are either quantum physicists or suitable cases for mental treatment…. ?

Either way, watching in HD is better than SD, regardless of whether it is live or delayed. So long as you do not know the result that is……

I disagree completely.

I clearly cannot influence the game whether I'm at the ground or at home but live sport delayed just doesn't feel the same. There is an aspect of everything has played out and there is zero chance of the outcome changing (regardless of whether you know the outcome or not). While some people don't have a problem with this (my parents for example watch plenty of recorded rugby) I hate that feeling. I have missed all but 5 F1 races this year and have not even bothered watching the replay even though its my favourite sport!

If you think delayed sport is as good as live sport, you aren't a true sports fan. Nothing wrong with that. It's just not your thing.
If you support a team but refuse to watch them on less than 1080p with Dolby surround sound, your not a true fan. You're a casual fan, which is great.

I'm sorry 474742 but that is a ridiculous statement. That's almost as bad as 'you're not a true supporter if you don't live in the city/town/region your team is from'.

Absolutely correct. The technology is very capable of delivering high quality contribution to the final encoder but commercial choices have quite possibly been made which gives a less than optimal result and this might also vary with different games (different delivery options each day and week). NeuLion and PLP will know what they are buying but I doubt they are going to share those details.
For those who can tolerate a sales pitch, the NeuLion July 2013 Corporate Update (http://www.neulion.com/fls/30000/Corporate_Update_July2013.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=30000) includes the words "Consumer Expectations for Quality are High" so I don't think this group is a lone voice for higher quality.

Nice strawman. Who's claiming that delayed is as good as live? Who is refusing to watch?

Some of us like the convenience of delayed coverage. Similarly, some of us are disappointed that the quality is dropping and we are weighing up the options.

Agreed. However, I would add that new technology should not mean worse quality. i.e. the quality should remain the same, at worst. No one could argue that this is the case here.

I am all for competition. Hopefully, service will get better and prices will too. However, my selfish point of view is that I used to have HD quality games, live or recorded, available to watch at my convenience on my 50" plasma. Now, I do not and that is a major step backwards IMHO.

I guess Netflix should probably pack up their bags and shut down then, because the stream quality of most content on Netflix is well below the quality of Broadcast HD....

(or maybe some people are willing to trade off picture quality for improved librry and on demand capabilities)

Netflix aren't even here, so they can pack their bags all they like.

I agree. But the new jumper is also riddled with fleas, and you need to bin it.
I too want to complain to someone, but I don't think anyone cares, least of all PLP.

Looks like it's in HD aswell for anyone worried whether it would be a website stream.
