Im new to CC. Although it does work fine. Pause is easy, there is a timeline but no thumbnail. I use an iPad. Its not ideal like Sky or a remote, but its pretty close for me as regards convenience. So, from a beta POV, its fine.

Re paying for beta, yes I get that. The option is no beta, no pay, no service. Wait till its non beta halfway through F1 season. Had Spark decided to go for sport say mid last year, they would be beta then, but no sport to play, and no testing. Testing fake content would be easy. Lightbox works fine, but the issue is not Spark, its the provider, providing from a live sports feed, and you cant really test that unless you "test that" Had netflix bought the rights, the same would apply as they are not broadcasting from Netflix HQ, they need to broadcast from the race, which is the world feed or the Sky Sports F1 feed, which they cannot broadcast. So IMHO there is no shortcut. F1TV as has been stated by another here, had issues for a long while. Right now, it works. A few UI/UX issues to resolve, but for me, I can easily access a stable full HD feed, so thats close to a finished product. (For my chosen platform)

Yep, chromecast is easy but the lack of fine control over the slider is a real issue for it, this is made worse by long durations as the bar has to be moved in smaller increments to get the same skip time as a smaller programme.

Apart from the odd glitch with the actual stream, I don't think the content is in Beta, the F1 is pretty damn good in my opinion (although F2 seems a little blurry on fast panning right now), its the actual apps that are the issue for me and the real lack of rapid development is something I'm struggling with as they haven't added some of the more basic features such as predefined skip lengths, e.g. +30s, +3m, +10m etc. which become important in sports with long intro's.

Currently the lightbox app is only available on certain models and predominately Sony based TVs using Android TV; its not available for my Shields or the mibox at all which is a problem... Spark have had a tendency to favor Sony over other brands, similar to TVNZ and Samsung... Hopefully the Spark Sport app will be generic Android TV.

Bookmarks where something that I saw on Al Jazeera years ago; they're online system stored up to 24 hours of content and you could join the stream and choose a bookmark which took you to a predetermined part of the stream in time; for F1 you could use it for things like start of the qualifying sessions, the various pre-race segments etc. as these are already inserted in the streams and are well timed unless of big red flag issues... As a result they can be insrted in the live or VOD streams.

Finally, I want to add that we need notifications from the app.  I'd like to tag F1/F2 for when either the live or VOD is due to come up (or perhaps both) so that I know when I should flick the TV over; Sky had reminders, TVNZ has notifications, neon has notifications(!) and spark sport would be better for them!

Anyone watching the f2?  The stream seems quite od, with lots of blocking flicking across the screen and the quality is not that good over all... Static image is HD but moving image is not so nice...

Yet again no editing signal sound and page on replays and no sound on quailfiing build up for interviews.

And I'm paying for this now unbelievable and then read papers this week and a load of crap at least not just, F1 fans a getting to know spark can't compete with other broadcasters. So disappointed and frustrated You Spark are full of it.

The platform sucks and spark don't seem to be improving it this is it.
Flag the world cup

Can't wait until rights are taken of them once they get in money troubles which is obvious they are in after spending to much just to get rights to F1 football.

I can't believe I'm paying for this and it's worse then sky ever was

Well im done with Spark Sport now.

This morning watching replay of qualifying on Chromecast. The first 30min was blank screen and then got to the end of recording at end of Q2.
I know Q3 is there as logged onto PC and watched it fine. So maybe Chromecast is broken after latest app update on Apple. Either way they are making it too hard to watch and still showing Beta on Chromecast anyway.
So will cancel for now and see in a few months if it gets any better. But I aint paying for this current broken service.

I pay to watch the Supercross from US and there app and Chromecast support is flawless. So I know it can be done well.

Couldn't have said better 20+ years following and this is just embarrassing, frustrating just terrible. I know kiwis are proud but at certain points have to realise we can't compete with weathly country's with broadcasters who can do things well. Sky did a great job now paying both and for inferior product

I'm watching the Qualifying replay now. I'm under half an hour in and there have been several sound drop outs.

We still have the big F1 logo up for minutes at a time during ad breaks which isn't great in a replay, but it is still preferable to having ads and I presume SS are under pressure to post the thing ASAP.

Overall streaming and seeking are working much better, but there are still some rough edges.

Finally signed up for the trial and tried playing the Azerbaijan F1: Qualifying replay via CC/IOS

- Around the end of Q2, it glitches and you see it jump back a period of time, the only way to get further in the stream is to skip the glitched area or it keeps doing this.

- Sound drops out at various times

- Scrubbing through any non live events should include thumbnails

- Should be cutting off the first 29 minutes of the "please wait" message on the video (even if this requires a manual process)

I have tried to convince a few people that Spark Sport with a Chromecast will be easy and they should have any trouble, but the technically challenged are going to struggle with these issues... Some would even just sit and wait the 29 minutes of "please wait".

I'm trying to be a supporter because I think sport streaming in NZ needed some competition but the platform really does need some polish.

I imagine the sound was the feed. I noticed when they interviewed LeClerc that the sound dropped out or went off sync then came back, all while he was talking. I take that as the feed, Im not sure if the provider would bother to seperate the audio then fix it, especially if the feed from SKyF1 had missing audio

I watched quali, till the end of Q3. Aside from FF through the accidents delay, seemed normal to me. CC on iPad

does anyone have any issues with actually streaming the content? ie watch it live open the stream it just works. asides from some of the content providers stream issues, dead spots etc.

it seems as if most of the issues are lack of polish/usability of the app when watching ondemand content

F2 was not great yesterday but the f1 was fine. I'm not that concerned by the stream itself as that has been generally OK so far but as the apps control the stream they are as important as the feed itself and the cause of my concerns.

Im about to watch F2. Ive watched the first few minutes. One of the FP sessions had an odd graphic issue. Seemed to be a weird artefact type flicker over a circular part of the screen. I could also see minor artifacting on the track. I tried Airplay and CCu, no change, it was not on all cameras, just some track cameras. I'll finish F2 now bit I see this on what small part of F2 I've watched. In case that is what you are seeing

My Nokia 7.1 plus is casting and acting as the controls.

Ok, that explains your difficulty with FF/RV. Im using an iPad in landscape, nice long slider, easy to FF/RV

Pretty sure I saw the same thing when I watched Race 1 of the F2 (BTW, what a race!)... I am not sure it was a circular pattern but was definitely some encodery flickeriness. As you say not on every camera either which means it's not in our encoding profile.

Cheers - N

Yes, watching F2 nw, its more rectangular and to the sides, but not right to the top or bottom. FP had that also
