A  WiFi unit that comes with an optional USB Ethernet port for $14.  Would never buy a WiFi unit only after the last one and trying to set it up with DNS entries.  The Fire TV box is way easier.  Hope this one is easy as well ..

Old ones are fine with custom dns on wifi. Not sure what problems you have but was the same as ethernet for the fire tv when I did it other than having to choose the network and key.

With the Wi-Fi version you have to delete the Wi-Fi account and then create it again with the new DNS entries but with the ethernet version it's just change the DNS entry.

Just tested mine and OK on Getflix.  The only  time I see this is when my IP address has changed and I haven't updated the DNS..

Is anyone getting a Home is Currently Unavailable on the FireTV ?

I've been getting this as an intermittent problem using dns4me.

Seems to come and go.

Sometimes it will fix itself with a hard reset of the FireTV. Sometimes it won't.

The weird thing is that the dns service still seems to be functioning as I can still force iPlayer(say) to launch via the settings menu and watch BBC programming without issue. Hit the home button and it's back to "Home is currently unavailable".

Anyone seen something similar?

I am planning to get the new Fire stick (4K).

While I have a Firestick and it usually works fine, it has a problem with maintaining HDCP with my Panasonic plasma so after 20 minutes or so the picture starts flickering and then becomes unwatchable. i have to switch the TV away to a different HDMI input and then back again which as one might imagine, is really annoying.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Using DNS4ME with no problems. Check your network I'd say.

I've got this currently.

Have rebooted twice and checked the network status in settings.

Using DNS4ME - have updated IP address.

Anyone else having this issue now?

I've had that message before, each time it was because the FireTV could not access the internet.

Yeah but, a check of network status in the Fire TV network settings reports OK access to network and internet, and no problems.

Is the LED on the front steady on  or flashing.  If flashing it means that there is no network  and when I've had this a power off for about 15 seconds fixes it..

Doh! Um, problem was all my own doing: A week or so ago, I had been checking out a trial Getflix subscription - trying to get access to Willow.tv to watch cricket, which wasn't then working through Dns4me. (Ashes great, no NZ-Windies coverage though). In the meantime, Dns4me have patched their service and got it working. I had been configuring my Firetv DNS settings back and forth between the two services to compare quality, thought I'd left them set up for Dns4me, Getflix trial period expired yesterday....

As you were and thanks.

Hey Guys,

Looking for a bit of advice, I've bought 2 amazon fire TV sticks (the alexa remote ones) to give to my parents/inlaws for christmas so they can watch NZ netflix (chromecast too hard with phone remote).

Since i'm going to have to support the devices should I add them to my amazon account or create separate amazon accounts for them?

They will use my netflix account but my amazon account has  a couple of echos and home automation stuff so I don't want them to have access to that.

What the best way to set this up?
