dwl:NonprayingMantis:gjen: He also said it's locally Cached ?? which is not true
It is, it will be cached at Akamai in NZ.
Obviously the original stream comes from the UK, but they only need to pull down 1 stream and then locally people will stream from akamai which will provide a good experience.
this means you don't get 10,000 people all trying to stream the same thing from an international destination, which would be a rubbish experience.
There does seem to be a concurrent backup service on the demo stream which comes from the US when required but the vast bulk of traffic should be local. It will be fascinating to see the range of experiences across the country from their local (or not so local) server.
A minor correction about the stream from overseas where I also suggested only one per game but in fact it is one per resolution per game so probably have a 3000, 1600, 1200 and 800 (and for those desperate perhaps 400). This total per game of about 7 Mbps is still trivial loading on the international circuit and I would expect any quality issues to be local. NeuLion (the provider) make a point about delivering quality and having visibility of the stream performance and with paying subscribers the way queries are handled and resolved will help define the success of the service. This is a milestone for TV in NZ as the sole (legal) delivery option and I'm looking forward to feedback.
Sorry but where do you think these servers are ? Akamai servers all in RSP's networks free but charge the people who own the content to store your content on them. So unless PLP have paid neulion to Distribute the content onto the servers then the end user will be getting the content off shore where they have enabled it.
The more CDN's they are on the more it costs them.
That's why a few pages back the server addresses are not in NZ....
