lchiu7: I guess my main issues with the Firestick are its remote which is proprietary so you need to get use one around together with a universal Harmony I also use. And given the size of the Firestick remote, it's easily lost :-(

I've found that because the AFTV Stick is plugged into an HDMI port my TV's remote works it just fine. TV is an old (2011 model) Sony KDL-46EX720.

That's a very nice TV. I had a EX710 and I thought it had one of the best pictures I had seen in many years.

That's CEC I guess? My situation is my Firestick is plugged into an HDMI switch and then into an AVR so I can get 5.1 DD+audio from it over my home theatre system. That seems to strip out the CEC commands.

Ah, that's a bit of a bugger. Iirc AFTV remotes operate on Bluetooth so Harmony remotes should operate the AFTV as long as they a model that supports Bluetooth.

Yes - great picture. I brought it in a boxing day sale at a very good price with 2 x 3D glasses and a DVD player thrown in. Think I used the 3D function about 3 times before deciding it was pants.

Dug out the old chromecast because of the lack of youtube now, makes me really miss the fire tv with having no remote to skip crap songs now. Can you believe that youtube put cat piano plays don't stop believing in my music mix? Oh dear, get phone, unlock it, wait for it to figure out what was happening in the youtube app and then I can skip. Horrid.

YouTube on Firefox is pretty much the same as the old app. I was pleasantly surprised.

Be aware I have done some stats for nerds with YouTube in silk browser and Firefox. Both of those do not do 4K although the video says it does. Smart YouTube TV will use 4k.

You can still watch YT on Fire TV using one of the two browsers you can install.  I use the Silk one.  Looks the same as the old app.

Anyone know if you can "cast"/Send videos to the browser version of Youtube? I tried using the Firefox browser version site but my phone didn't see it as a target in the Youtube app.

Not sure if you can set the location to a NZ postcode.

But if it's the timezone settings you're trying to fix, a solution is to sideload an app called TimeZoneChanger.

I can't remember where exactly I got it to fix mine, but maybe try: https://apkname.com/download/com.futurek.android.tzc

You can set the address for Alexa interactions but the timezone is still the ones available in the list, unless you manually change it using something else.

Not sure if mentioned before but now you can change the Fire TV timezone to any other timezone, not only USA ones, directly from Settings.

2 Questions

1) Does anyone else use the DWTV app on the firestick, it seems to play ok for 20 secs then stops for about 10secs then plays for 20 then stops for 10 and so on, netflix and youtube both play fine, and i can't seem to find a setting to tune down the quality to SD or whatever on DW

2) Is there anyway to get rid of all the amazon prime shows appearing on it and all the netflix shows that are US only these appear outside of the apps, i wouldn't mind if they showed me things available in NZ, its just a pain

Cheers
