Original Fire TV still working pretty well for me to be honest.
Surprised they still push out updates this far from launch - maybe this is the last?
I also run KODI on it.
The only reason I would look at the cube is perhaps for HEVC support > 720p - The original box is ok on KODI with 720p but cant quite decode fast enough for 1080p.
Though I dont really like the fact they dont include an ethernet port on the newer boxes - that said, the fire TV is about 1m away from my router - so probably doesnt matter.

Does anyone have a fire tv remote they don't need? My kids decided to spill water into the remote and it's not working that well so could do with replacing it.
There is an app you can use on your phone till you can get it replaced.

Yeah but not so user friendly for the kids. Miss 6 can drive the Fire tv on her own really well.
The Fire TV stick is on special and I'm looking at getting one to watch Netflix.
Will the Fire TV Netflix app allow downloads ? (Our internet is often too slow at peak times to watch 'live')

Has anyone found their first gen remotes have had that horrid coating on them deteriorate to a gross sticky mess?
Nope. Both good.

Mine where faulty so that battery would run out in 48 hours, so I got a replacement. Both the faulty and the replacement look good.

Mine have both gone a bit funky but I put it down to Miss 4 and Miss 6 getting food and assorted sugar liquids on them.

You can buy new authentic ones on eBay. I bought one from there, just make sure it matches your Fire TV generation.
I ended up ordering a Mi Box instead. The Fire TV it's self is going a bit funny so it's better to just upgrade. I'm also a bit sick of the proprietary interface - something that doesn't push it's own content is more in my lane. We love the Apple TV (gen 4) on our lounge TV, it's just a bit pricey.
