sultanoswing: Vodafone & Telecom = wannabe online content providers.

Netflix = competition.

Coincidence or conspiracy?

Coincidence and nothing else

Vodafone???
Lol, all Vodafone have done so far is copied sky, using sky content, and created a 'worse than online' model that still somehow uses the internet.
Case in point: how they do 'on demand' is by having multiple channels all showing the same movie at different times. That's how it works on satellite because you can't stream stuff truly on demand, but Vf seem to think that is how people should also experience it when done via the internet, which is, IMO, totally dumb.

Appears to be issues in the UK, some posts are 8 hours old. I'm thinking it's Netflix themselves having issues.

I did say "wannabe". I saw their ad on TV and thought "I'll take a look at that service".... and was typically disappointed.

In a ways, it's reassuring that it's not only NZ. Interestingly, there's nothing on the whirlpool forums (aussie-based) to indicate that anyone in Aus is having problems of this nature over the last day or two.

freitasm: Ok, so it seems there two things in play here:

  • Netflix is having problems in the USA

  • DNS unblocker users are having problems in certain ISP (namely Vodafone and Telecom)

Other things to consider:

  • VPN users are not having problems

  • Some users on Slingshot Global Mode seem to also have problems

  • Snap is not having these problems either VPN or DNS

My testing agrees with this

My place:

Snap UFB, unblock-us on router, all devices access netflix US ok

GFs place:

Telecom ADSL, unblock-us, no devices can access Netflix US, UK is fine

thewanderingv: Switching to UK is only a very paltry alternative to a fix to US access - I remember reading somewhere that the catalogue difference is something like 3x - 9900 US titles to 3300 UK titles.

Less titles, but after having a browse for the first time this morning, probably still more thsn enough quality shows and movies, including some british ones that are not on the us one.

Once this is sorted out will probably flick back and forward more often

Another Snap user here, using Astrill VPN and having no issues with Netflix

UnoTellyNick: Hi all,

In case you need a VPN service during this outage, we have 3-day free VPN service. You can try it here: http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/60447-how-to-sign-up-for-a-3-day-unovpn

As someone who has subscribed for a full year on the DNS plan, my preference is for you to try your best to give me back reliable access to Netflix using my subscription. For assorted reasons that others have given, in many ways VPN isn't an adequate substitute. As of today, on VF ADSL Netflix USA is basically unusable for me with a pile of 8201 errors.

If this is NetFlix trying to do some geo blocking using ping times (as has been suggested by more than one in this thread) then why are Australians not having any issues as their ping times would at best be the same as ours, but in all likelihood worse given the greater distance from the US.

My update today is that I still have NO issues on any device I have. Telecom ADSL2+/Unotelly/150Gb plan/DNS set per device. Any Netflix region is fine including USA.

PS: I have found NF Sweden very good for content that cannot be found on US/UK/Canada Netflix eg Out of Time movie.

I've been having problems with my connection since Friday 23rd. Im with Vodafone using unblock-us. Up until then it was working really well, HD in everything I was watching. I actually thought Vodafone must have somehow blocked me out. I managed to watch one film last night, then tonight I managed to watch part of a film, then I get this error ' N8210' telling me there is something wrong with the network. Anyone know if there are any fixes planned?

I don't know about Unblock-Us and Getflix folks. I know UnoTelly knows about the problem and is working on it - even had then accessing my laptop to test some configurations and some other users' PCs to check these as well.

Unblock-us have this on their service updates page...:

US/Canada Netflix affecting our New Zealand customers

Last Updated: May 24, 2014 09:10AM EDT

We are aware of an issue currently that customers in New Zealand are not able to watch any content on US/Canada Netflix.

It's reported that other regions are working fine using our DNS, please feel free to use one of the other regions that we support for the time being.

We are looking into this as a matter of urgency, and we will update this article as soon as we have an update for you.
